You're probably well aware by now that there are two BB-8 action figures floating around out there as either pack-in figures or as part of sets. One is best described like a ping pong ball, while the other "higher quality" version is more like a golf ball (when comparing the weights of these figures) JTA reader and friend Josh M. helps put some clarity in this puzzle. The BB-8 in the BB-8/Scavenger pack has had a running change to the solid BB-8. I purchased a freshly stocked one for my son today, and it is the solid one with the peg hole but with clean paint apps (unlike the MF pack-in). It also, in direct comparison, had a better range of motion in the head due to the ball joint being at the top of the neck stem (unlike the hollow version with the fixed head at the top and the ball joint down inside the body at the bottom of the neck stem). Here's the date stamp to help everyone track this one down if so desired:

Editor's Note: Also keep in mind that the pack-in BB-8 figure that comes with the Battle Action Millennium Falcon is also the heavier golf ball quality. And the BB-8 from the Kohl's multipack is the same figure as Battle Action Millennium Falcon version but is painted cleanly. Perhaps Hasbro is putting the hollow "ping pong ball" quality BB-8 out of production because of its inferiority,
