Dear JTA,

I found this Interesting sale on Star Wars Lego sets at my local Target
-Legomastercole583

Droid Factory

May 24, 2009. That was the day it all began. (I'll get back to that in a moment.) A short while before that, I clearly recall being overjoyed about finding wave 6 of The Legacy Collection at retail. It was a bugger of a wave and most collectors didn’t find it until months later. But I found them before most others and I felt renewed as a collector because of the impressive array of figures that made up the wave. As you probably know, in general it doesn’t take much to wow me or tick me off when it comes to Star Wars toys. I am on a perpetual roller coaster ride of emotions when it comes to these things. But when I opened up 2009’s TLC Ugnaught (BD 43) figure, I was completely stunned. While The Legacy Collection gave us some very impressive figures throughout the first five waves, it seemed to me that out of the blue Hasbro had decided to create a new caliber of figures with details, articulation and paint jobs that would continually impress me. And that they did. Hasbro had an uncanny ability to make retooled and kit-bashed parts seem fresh again, and the new sculpts had a precision that I just had not seen until this point. While I don’t discount ANYTHING they made beforehand because I adore The Saga Collection and the 30 (77-07) lines more than you could possibly imagine, it was The Legacy Collection that made me realize that it would be wise if I fastened my seatbelt tightly because Hasbro would be releasing some of the greatest goods they’ve ever released to date. It's been a ride that has never really stopped despite some roadblocks (like distribution issues) along the way.

Oh. The Ugnaught. Yeah. That was the figure that inspired me to say to myself “Self: you have to let JTA’s audience know how incredible this figure is. It would be a crime if anyone passed on it not knowing how great it is. Even if they know it's great figure, remind them of that.” And it was that simplicity to how Research Droids Reviews started up in 2009. It had a very short run years earlier, but I was naively confident it could be bettered. So I took the initiative to make my claims a reality. Maybe I was in over my head. But in a simple and amateur blog style I wrote about why I loved the figures I was buying. Amazingly, it resonated with readers. Of course I write about some figures I disliked and peppered them into the mix, but overall, Research Droids Reviews blossomed into an overtly positive review database that was quickly garnering readers at a pace I wasn’t so sure I could keep up with despite a seemingly bottomless passion I believed was inside of me. Over the years, our Research Droids Reviews database has grown as much I as have I suppose. Like me, it has gone through its own evolution and metamorphosis too. We have changed the appearance of the module multiple times, changed what information we decide to archive inside of it and added more categories than I can count. And thanks to Chuck Paskovics, he got me up to speed to become at the very least an average photographer, a skill that was instrumental in landing me my most proud professional accomplishment of my career in Star Wars collecting.

Research Droids Reviews has kicked into high gear and it's a machine that we just can't contain anymore. It nearly has a mind of its own. Thanks to our readers, it has become our most popular feature. Without fail, we have anywhere from 3,000 to 4,000 unique daily visits in the database, which is totally mind-blowing to us. What’s more, unbelievably, today on our 5 Year Anniversary, we have amassed exactly 6 million hits, and there are no signs of the interaction stopping. Readers add their memories to the comments in the reviews, and they even correct my errors when I goof. And they echo many of my own sentiments. I love that engagement and I am honored that JTA has become a place where others share this passion with me. Thank you to the readers who check in daily to see what craziness will spew from my head on any given day. Thank you for voicing your agreements, disagreements, anger, frustration, joy, elation and general happiness with me on the many Star Wars products made for us by so many different licensees. Whether we’re checking out the latest releases or revisiting some gems of the past, our readers provide steadfast interaction on our site and we don't take it for granted. It's not too often to have a faithful following like that. So we’re extremely thankful to you. This all couldn’t have been accomplished without you. In case you're curious, you have received from JTA a new review every single day since May 24, 2009 (if you've been reading that long). That longevity of over 1800 RDRs sometimes makes me want to retire, but the energy felt from all of you in response to them helps keep me going strong.

We have been working behind the scenes to enhance a few things inside out Research Droids Reviews for our 5 year anniversary and going forward. Some are subtle and you may have missed them. But eagle-eyed readers may have already noticed some of these updates. We have increased the gallery images to 1200 pixels from 925 pixels (thanks to a new camera), we have added some links on the gallery pages for better and easier navigation, we have created a new watermark and we have updated the module graphics here and there to make it pop a little more. Research Droids Reviews would also not be possible without the help from the camaraderie of good friends and colleagues. Whether it be from guest appearances, contributing or vital behind the scenes assistance and help, I would personally like to thank the following for helping to make the first 5 years run so smoothly: Dan Curto (formerly of Rebelscum.com), Jayson Krebsbach (Yakface.com), Adam Pawlus (GalacticHunter.com), Chris Swanski (BanthaSkull.com), James Burns (JediNews.co.uk), Rich Alot, Arnold Corso, David Delgado and Chad Cobain. It would not be possible without all of you. I am totally indebted. Thank you for frequently assisting me to maintain the steam in my engine. Whether helping me to verify if a figure is a retool or repaint, to verifying the source of a character I am stuck on, your help has been incredible. It’s amazing to have bonds with colleagues like this that have ethics and honesty and who truly love this hobby and are passionate about it. Not those trying to market it as their own and falsify stats and get rewarded for it.

And most importantly, thank you to Chuck Paskovics, my partner at JTA, for bringing so many of my wishes and suggestions to life. From the design, to the graphics and banners, database functionality, module development, customization and even assistance with photography as well as an occasional review or two, none of this would have been possible without you. Thank you for allowing me to act like the fourth child you never wanted.

With that being said, we are proud to present our 5 Year Anniversary Research Droids Reviews entry. It’s not a new product, but it has a ton of parts and worthy of this landmark event. We have been sitting on this review for almost two years. The time never seemed right and we partly were curious to see how others would execute their own analyses. With the cancellation of Hasbro's 2013 Legacy Collection line, there is a big void for Droid Factory that needs to be filled. Hopefully this will help. Today we look at the Droid Factory (2012 Collection) from the Disney STAR TOURS line. We are quite confident that Jedi Temple Archives now has provided you with the only complete look at this collection from dome to third leg on the entire web. Every last part is available for you to ogle individually front and back. We also provide you with a complete look of all 25 unique domes and the various droids you can build with them. For fun, we also provided you a section where we compare side by side the newly assembled Disney Droid Factory astromechs against the MANY Build A Droid figures Hasbro has released throughout the years, from The Legacy Collection, Legacy Collection and various multipacks and other basic figure releases.. We hope you enjoy the review and the image gallery containing over 200 IMAGES! Plus, we also have our complementary Visual Guide ready to show even more details. Again, thank you for the years of enjoyment. Hopefully this train can keep running for as long as possible. Click the banner to check out our 5 Year Anniversary RDR!

Sincerely,

Paul Harrison

Droid Factory

Hello Chuck and Paul,

With the arrival of the anniversary of the initial release of Star Wars, Grammarly started to reflect on what makes the film so great. Being language lovers and word nerds at heart, we are particularly fascinated and charmed by the grammar of the great Jedi master, Yoda.

Some of our favorite quotes in literature, Yodified:

"Across the sky a screaming comes." (Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow)

"A bright and cold day in April it was, and the clocks thirteen were striking." (George Orwell, 1984)

"The best of times it was, the worst of times it was." (Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities)

If to Yodify something you want, follow these main rules you must:

1. Move your modifiers, modifier phrases, and objects before the subject-verb phrase.

2. Swap your subject-verb order.

3. Drop the auxiliary "do" when negating most verbs and place the negation after the verb.

4. Do not use contractions.

5. Drop the auxiliary "do" in present tense questions.

To help you keep these straight, we created this handy-dandy style guide [Infographic attached below].

Welcome to Jedi Temple Archives’ May the Fourth contest!

Jocasta Nu got stuck babysitting the younglings at the Jedi Temple. Although well-groomed for their Force training, their young age still enables them to get into some expected trouble every now and again. Last seen, they were playing in the archives and got into the holocrons. Before Jocastu Nu knew it, a total of 1000 holocrons went missing. She needs your help to find them all.

How can you help her?

You will need to search high and low the many pages that make up JediTempleArchives.com. Before you gasp in horror, below are some clues to help direct you on your quest. Please take some time to read them over as they’ll greatly assist you to find the missing holocrons.

Clues:

The younglings were NOT seen playing in the Research Droids Reviews database, but they were seen playing in other archives on the site.

Although big fans of the Special Reports archives, they didn’t go in there to play either.

The younglings are completely impressed with the legacy Hasbro left for collectors by giving us a collection of figures, many of which are based on the original Kenner vintage collection of figures.

Jocasta Nu has been impressed with all of the breaking news stories found in Jedi Temple Archives news archives search. A cursory search of breaking news may help you find some extra holocrons.

The younglings were interested in finding out when Paul Harrison posted his first article for Jedi Temple Archives. They believe they dropped a few holocrons in there too.

All who posted a comment in our TEASER CONTEST article will automatically received 100 bonus holocrons. Don't try to post something now because the comments are closed now. (Just think – those who posted there are 100 points ahead of everyone else!) BE SURE to include this information, that you are entitled to these bonus holocrons, in the email submission to us.

Directions:

See what you will be looking for below. Once you come upon a page that says X HOLOCRONS (look ALL over the page from top to bottom), copy and paste the link of that page in an email and underneath the link type how many holocrons you found at that link. (You will eventually send a completed email to [email protected]). Repeat this for each page you find as many holocrons as possible. A perfect score is 1000 holocrons. Once you are done, add up how many holocrons you have located and add that information to the bottom of the email as well. Holocron finds will range from 1 HOLOCRON all the way up to 100 HOLOCRONS – you could just find a few, or you could "hit the jackpot".

100 HOLOCRONS

You have until 9 PM (EDT) on May 4th to submit your entries. (Your email will need to be time-stamped on or before that time. No exceptions.) We will NOT make an exception for late entries. We are expecting a high volume of participation, so please be timely.

Keep your HOLOCRON finds to yourself. Remember, you’re competing against all other JTA readers. By announcing where you have found them will give everyone participating free pass at those holocrons.

The JTA reader with the highest holocron count will get to choose the price he/she wants (The Black Series 3.75” 41st Elite Corps Clone Trooper (the "corrected European exclusive" version) – courtesy of Order Sixty-Six Toys or The Black Series 6” Stormtrooper – courtesy of Jedi Temple Archives) and the runner-up will receive the remaining prize.

The Fine Print:

We will ship to everywhere we’re allowed to ship. If your country prevents us from shipping or shipping costs are beyond extravagant, a workaround may be required instead (i.e. gift card etc.) Prizes will be mailed within 2 weeks of end of contest. If you don’t receive your prize, please email [email protected] with two weeks of shipment announcement. We hope that none of these things will arise and be an issue, but we have to add this caveat just in case.

We hope you have a blast collecting holocrons! Have fun!

Order Sixty-Six Toys and Jedi Temple Archives

A full case of 12 "NEW" The Vintage Collection figures that are straight repacks (or simple repaints) of, to date, never-before-carded The Vintage Collection figures. In other words, if Hasbro brought back some definitive sculpts and repackaged them exclusively in TVC packaging would you bite on the case? It is the belief that repacks wouldn't sell. Prove us or others wrong. There are two comments posted. One says "YES!". One says "NO!" Simply select the up arrow to the response you resonate with more.

12 Figures with an MSRP of $119.99.

An example:

Snaggletooth (from the Special Action Figure Set from The Vintage Collection)
AT-AT Driver (from the Legacy Collection)
R2-D2 (from Resurgence Of The Jedi Battle Packs set from the Legacy Collection on a 12-back TVC card)
C-3PO ("new" utilizing the U-3PO Build A Droid sculpt on a 12-back TVC card)
Chewbacca (from the TSC Early Bird Figures set on 12-back TVC card)
FX-7 (the POTJ figure, but the repainted version from the Special Action Figure set 9-pack)
Hoth Rebel Trooper (from The Legacy Collection)
Ree-Yees (from The Black Series)
Emperor's Royal Guard (repack from The Vintage Collection)
Power Droid ("new" repaint of the Special Action Figure Set figure to give us the Lars' Homestead droid)
Death Star Droid (either Build A Droid color will work, but perhaps vac-metallize the silver version)
Zuckuss (from the Legacy Collection)
Luke Skywalker (Combat Poncho) (use the VC23 figure and the accessories from the LC Battle For Endor Battle Packs figure and place on a ROTJ card back)

All JTA readers can get an advanced start on the contest at 9 PM EDT tonight. (Just saying....) Be here!

Dear Paul and all,

I'm not sure this is newsworthy, but I'm sending you a picture I took a couple of days ago in a Toys'R'Us located near Lausanne, Switzerland.

As you can see, it is possible to find Boba Fett on a store shelf over here (It was the second time I saw him). Besides one full of peg of Biggs & Ani, there were some Black Series 3"75 Wave 2 left overs, some TVC (including a couple of Wave 16 figures) and some older stuff...

I'd be happy to send you more information if needed. Keep up the great work !
Best regards,

Erik

Found this at toys r us. These speeder bikes were not on the shelves a month ago, now they are back, and clearence sale with the angry bird garbage.

Paul,

Just wanted to let you all know that the third wave of 6" figures have hit Florida retailers. Only obi was left (along with five Han Solos). But there is hope, any way.

Good luck to my fellow collectors!

Hello.

someone told me to send my pictures, when I mentioned the new “R4-Anakin”.
Was in the shopping mall with my family, picture 1–3 is from a supermarket, see yourself what I found in the pile on the shelve, they simply put the sagas astromech on anakins backcard.

At least they had a Mara, we even found more curiosities while visiting the toys store, in picture 5-7 you can see mostly the ususal stuff, TBS, Sagas, but also 2 POTJ and even 1 POTF Ackbar, I was speechless to be honest, how old are those figures now, I have no clue where they exhumed those.

cheers oliver.

Hey Paul!

its Bobcat from JTA! :) hows it going man ?

So tonight i did a little toy run hoping to find something new. Wal-Mart & Target had NOTHING new as i pretty much expected BUT then i went to the Real Canadian Superstore, (more so known as ''The Superstore'') and to my surprise i found Black Series figures which they have not had until now and i check this store often enough. They had all of Wave 3 fresh in stock and even a Luke from wave 1 in their. maybe a carry forward in some of those boxes? trust me this store has had no black series before so whatever was put on is fresh from their boxes as of now. i found ONE Darth Plaguies buried at the back of the pegs! it was awesome! i almost thought i wasnt going to find him but their he was tucked away! :P

they are charging 12.99 a figure which is lame. normally its 10.99 here for BS but this may or may not be such a hard figure to find at retail so i decided i better just buy it and that i did! still. thats really crappy they want 12.99 for black series figures at this store! but oh well!

so im reporting for JTA that Wave 3 has landed in Canada at the Superstore! so canadians check your superstores! im located in Southern Ontario. the rest is up to you guys! happy hunting everyone! :)

heres a pic. sorry its not the greatest but its all i have to take photos with!

JTA rocks! :)

Saw these two at a Target I shop at. Probably just some returns but hey you never know what you'll find.

I was browsing last Saturday through the toy section of a Mexican Wal-Mart (Guadalajara, near El Trocadero) and I found this gem. I guess it was OK for the Price.

Hi! I’m PackoM, from SPAIN.

I see that it’s hard to find the new variation of the TBS 41st Elite Corps Clone Trooper in USA, but it is the regular version here, in Europe. I bought my trooper from EBAY Germany, some weeks ago so I decided to send some pictures to you so you could complete your reviews.

You can see that the grey paint of the new version is lighter than the old one. One exception: the helmet. At the last picture you can see that it is the same dark gray, but the noew one includes a grey point at the sides of the helmet and the grey little lines of both sides changed into blue.

I hope these pictures would be fine for you. Enjoy! Your friend: PackoM

Thank you PackoM for sending us these images. Great news! We have been able to secure the running change and an update to our RDRs is coming very, very soon! In the meantime, please enjoy PackoM's images!

Hi Paul and fellow JTA-ites.

Been meaning to send this in for a while now but recently had a wee girl (Grace. She is just over a week old. I got these two figures the day before she was born) so haven't had a lot of time.
TVC (and now Black Series) are usually $20NZD but it seems TVC is being discounted everywhere to $15 lately presumably to clearance it out.

Visiting Toyworld (I hardly ever buy at retail) I discovered a special of two TVC for $12.99.

Most of the usual suspects but some interesting figures in the mix as well. Dak, Wedge, red bandana Kithaba and two Shae Vizla's. She was a figure I past over when she was released as I just had no interest in her. But at that price I picked up both!!

Madezra.

Hey Paul,

Has anyone reported the specifics of the Five Below 2-packs origin in last 24 hours? I grabbed myself one McQuarrie R2 & C-3PO pack as well as the original Celebration IV Hasbro shipping case.

I have provided you with 4 photos and as you can see (storage drips and dents) they are definitely former CIV stock from the LA Convention Center. You can even see what looks like the LAX airport shipping sticker under the Celebration Store label. This box was 3,831 of 5,000 pieces. The last image is the 5B shipping label
I chatted with the Five Below clerk at the store in Johnson City, NY and he said there are about 300 Five Below stores. If every 5B store received one of these cases of 12, that's a lot of originally unsold figures. Wow!

Keep up the awesome work and news on your site!

Scott K., the Warsaw Wonder

WARNING! Spoilers will be all throughout the article, so if you haven't watched this episode don't read the review!

Season 6 Episode 6 Review: Rise Of Clovis

“I don’t know who’s in there sometimes. I just know I’m not happy anymore. I don’t feel safe.”

Before I get into my review of the actual episode, I have to say it was great to hear Ian Abercrombie’s flawless portrayal of Palpatine one last time. I’m not a huge fan of Tim Curry’s interpretation of Palpatine and hearing Mr. Abercrombie in the role he owned for five seasons reminded how much I’ve missed his version of that character. Rest in peace Mr. Abercrombie.

While “Rise of Clovis” was still bogged down by a relatively dull and unimportant plot, it was a huge improvement over the last episode because it chose to focus on characters instead of minutia. “Rise of Clovis” managed to make Clovis a more sympathetic character and put the dysfunctional relationship between Padmé and Anakin front and center. At the beginning of the episode, several senators and Jedi gathered in the Chancellor’s office to see what Clovis had to say. Clovis seemed to genuinely want to reform the Banking Clan and expose corruption. I suppose banking reform is a realistic plot point, but that doesn’t necessarily make it an interesting one. I’m not saying every episode has to be jam-packed with action, but I don’t think of banking reform when I think of Star Wars. Anyway, Palpatine told Padmé to help Clovis.

This is when the episode starts to improve. Anakin told Padmé as her husband he demands her to turn down the assignment and garbs her by the arm every time she tried to walk away. I touched on this in my last review, but I never felt we were supposed to like Anakin and Padmé as a couple. It’s supposed to feel awkward and flawed. These two people are trying to live out a fantasy they’ll never be able to achieve. This episode did a better job establishing that than the prequels. After that, we got a great scene between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan talked about attachments and Anakin’s feelings for Padmé as well as the feelings he had for Satine. Anakin was resistant, but our take away from that scene should be that Obi-Wan at least realized Anakin has feelings for Padmé and was trying to help.

Back at Padmé’s apartment, she and Clovis started talking about his past. Apparently I wasn’t the only one wondering why Clovis was the only human in the Banking Clan.
