I thought I would close the loop and send you the following update on my Slave 1 saga. Today, I received a new Slave 1 in the white packaging.

Instead of UPS, this one was delivered by the U.S. Postal Service. The box isn't mint, but it is definitely what I would expect buying from an online retailer. I am happy to have it in my hands.
