2013: A Possible Year For The Reinvention Of The Vintage Collection?

Topic: Hasbro

If you have followed my many “opinion” posts with any regularity, you probably already are aware of the fact that I am a conspiracy theorist. So this lovely email Star Wars fan sites received from HunterPR today raving about Hasbro listening to us and releasing “fan favorites" of The Vintage Collection in February 2013 has started my brain going. What does this mean? Was Hasbro premature kicking The Vintage Collection to the curb? Is it already time to bring it back? Is this action Hasbro doing actually helping collectors? Do they realize that figures are indeed selling by getting them out to the public instead of having them sit and collect dust in their warehouse (as evidenced by frequent immediate sell outs at HasbroToyShop.com)? So what could this all mean? New product years start off with repacks. That's the way it's been in recent history. So could these repacks be the start of a new TVC lineup, albeit brief, to kill some time until the 3D films start to hit theaters late 2013? (more….)

Is 2013 going to be different than what we have already been told by Hasbro? That is certainly a possibility now isn't it? We now know that The Vintage Collection is making another "debut" in February of 2013. Could everything else that was scheduled be pushed down the timeline a bit because of this? Who the heck knows? With the 3D releases of Episode II and Episode II now officially planned for the 3rd quarter 2013, it does makes sense somewhat if everything from all licensees will see different plans than originally announced. While at best this is conjecture, the great news here is that this is perhaps the upside for many of you as you’ll be seeing some action figures for the first time ever in your local stores.

So, is it possible that The Vintage Collection will be back for a little while longer? That might be some great and encouraging news that isn't too far out of the realm of possibility. Obviously the figures announced are the equivalent of two cases of repeat figures, so maybe to supplement these Hasbro can release new figures in The Vintage Collection along with them? Everyone I know desperately wants to see 2009's TLC Obi-Wan Kenobi (BD 34) added to a vintage card back. I mean, wouldn't you want that too? If they need some figures to pad the beginning of 2013, then why not bang these out once and for all for us? But that's not all that Hasbro could update.

It would also be a fantastic time to get other straight repacks out in TVC packaging. Chewbacca, Count Dooku, Stormtrooper (on a Star Wars card back), R1-G4, Yarna, (if you don't know why the two latter figures are so important to TVC, I really can't help you anymore) and more Sandtroopers. And let's not forget that the complete wave 9 from 2011 and the complete wave 16 could stand a chnace at retail (again and for the first time respectively). Gosh, could you imagine if this became a reality? That’s just my own two cents. As far as my friends and I are concerned, it’s much too soon to say goodbye to The Vintage Collection anyhow. I would encourage Hasbro to make it last as long as they can. Clearly they have started the process by reintroducing some previous action figures for a confirmed 2013 release already. So let's take it to the next level!

It will be interesting to see what all of this means during Toy Fair this year, but expect some latest information out of the UK Toy Fair who always have theirs before America. What do you think? What figures would you like to see entered into The Vintage Collection? Leave your comments below please!
