Research Droids Reviews: November 21, 2012 – December 4, 2012

Princes Leia Organa - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Gentle Giant Ltd. has not relented once yet on their popular Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. They’ve consistently released a couple every few months and one just keeps getting better than the last. They’re committed to releasing all of the 12-backs first and one of the first four vintage Kenner figures ever, Princess Leia Organa has now been released to thunderous applause.... Boba Fett - Premium Format Figures
It was only a matter of time before the most infamous bounty hunter in the entire Star Wars galaxy was made into a gorgeous Premium Format Figure by Sideshow Collectibles. Can you think of any other Star Wars character that has the draw, pull and creates such an intense captivating interest in Star Wars fans as this bounty hunter? If you think about it, it’s rather remarkable.... (read the full review)

TC-14 - TAC - Saga Legends
The opening of Episode I started off with an intriguing opening that really didn’t last throughout the rest of the film. (We’re not starting an anti-Episode I tirade in this review, so please don’t mistake our opening comments as such.).... (read the full review)

Darktrooper - TAC - Saga Legends (Fans' Choice #1)
Really? You guys and gals out there in the cyber collecting community really chose 1998’s EU Dark Trooper figure as the #1 Fans’ Choice figure in the 2007 TAC Saga Legends poll? Why? With all of the great action figures out there that really needed a rerelease why did you choose this one? It’s not that we despise this figure, but with all of the other "better" choices out there why was there such a strong impetus to get this one out again?.... (read the full review)

Sandtrooper [Sergeant - Version 2] - TAC - Saga Legends
Does Hasbro release pristine white Sandtrooper action figure to drive us insane, or is this done so that we can add another stormtrooper action figure to collections with a little more versatility? These questions may never receive answers, but however you feel about them there is no denying that the Sandtrooper [Sergeant – Version 2] figure split and divided the collecting community in various ways.... (read the full review)

Clone Commander - TAC - Saga Legends
The Clone Commander admittedly looks fantastic in the Saga Legends line and it may just be the wisest choice for an army builder in this line. Most collectors couldn’t afford to buy multiples of the Evolutions sets to army build the great figures contained within it, so a single-carded figure for $6.99 becomes all the more attractive.... Sandtrooper [Squad Leader - Version 1] - TAC - Saga Legends
Hasbro has plans to reuse the heck out of the sculpt first seen with 2006’s TSC Sandtrooper (SAGA 037) figure for the 2007 TAC Saga Legends line. It’s a pretty decent mold and it makes sense to amortize their tooling costs a bit to reduce overhead.... (read the full review)

Clone Trooper (Attack Of The Clones) - TAC - Saga Legends
Until Star Wars goes away (which will never happen by the way), collectors can expect to receive an inordinate amount clones released for the basic figure lines. Clone troopers are staples so that means that each product year, Hasbro will issue one form of them or another to keep the demand fulfilled.... (read the full review)

Biker Scout - TAC - Saga Legends
The 2007 TAC Saga Legends line was especially important to Star Wars collectors because they were involved with the latter half of the action figure selection. Obscure pack-in figures, some of the rarer standard-released figures and some of the bets army builders you could possibly imagine were chosen by actual collectors – so show some gratitude for their persistence! One of the most popular figures of 2006 was an immediate choice for consideration and that would be 2006’s VTSC Biker Scout figure.... (read the full review)

Pit Droids [Orange - Version 2] - TAC - Saga Legends
There aren’t too many things more powerful that the voice of the hoi polloi is there? Fans demanded and Hasbro obliged. 2007 was in many ways the year for collectors. The zest and excitement of Star Wars fans was at an all time high as we all eagerly celebrated 30 years of Star Wars. Hasbro celebrated this momentous even too.... (read the full review)

Darth Vader (Exclusive Collectors Edition) - ROTS - Basic (Exclusive)
Wow. The power of marketing! Only Hasbro could sell us a bridge via TARGET in the form of a nearly decade old sculpt with some pretty glowing paint on it, mark it up over 100% and create a demand that didn’t seem to be filled – even with 50,000 units produced of it. By now you know that 50,000 pieces isn’t small by any means for a Star Wars figure.... (read the full review)

501st Stormtrooper - TSC - Exclusive
Some San Diego Comic Con exclusives will only appeal to a niche audience. That sentiment probably could apply to the 501st Stormtrooper. The figure was released as the 2006 San Diego Comic Con exclusive for The Saga Collection. We have to accept a few things when it comes to certain exclusives.... (read the full review)

Yoda - ROTS - Basic (III 26)
When you’re a hardcore Star Wars collector, there is nothing more frustrating than a pretty good sculpt ruined by action features. Forget about the argument that these things are designed for kids for a few moments. We realize that and for all intents and purposes we don’t care. Hasbro can relegate action features to things outside of the action figure.... (read the full review)

Holographic Pre Vizsla - Maquettes
OK. We’re irritated this time and we’re not holding back. The Holographic Pre Vizsla Maquette did not meet expectations in any form whatsoever. In fact, it’s such a disappointment that it may be the only collectible in our entire collection that we’ll surely send packing. What a waste.... (read the full review)
