Movie Heroes Cancelled? DTF Cancelled? Not Really! Huge Walmart Update!

OK, we promised you an update on the very perplexing events surrounding the Movie Heroes line. Click through for the confirmed conclusion to this nearly unanswerable ball of confusion. Special thanks to "you know who" for "his" help in trying to figure out what was happening.

So what in the world is going on with the Movie Heroes line? What is going on with the Discover The Force line? We reported to you back on July 27, 2012 that the Movie Heroes UPCs ended up on Walmart's latest deleted product list. That was indeed true. You may have noticed however that they didn't end up getting marked down. So why did they appear on that list? (This we're not too sure about, but maybe that had to happen first in order to allow for what happened second.) More interesting than this however is that the "SW Movie Legends DTF" shelf tags disappeared with the recent reset yet the Discover The Force figures remain on the pegs. In fact, they now hang on the "SW Legends Figure Asst " tags (known as Movie Heroes to us). What does this mean?

It has been explained to us clearly by Walmart management that the Discover The Force line (the exclusive basic figures with the 3D glasses) have been cross-referenced with the Movie Heroes line. Walmart has taken it upon themselves to create there own unique "SKU" (for lack of a better term) which now includes BOTH Discover The Force and Movie Heroes lines. From what we understand, the Discover The Force line is selling well and there was no need to mark them down. In fact, more cases will be coming into stores (and was true for our store this morning). What the big problem is however is that the true dedicated "Movie Heroes" line will take a backseat now until the Discover The Force figures sell through (unless a few random case assortments make it out in lieu of Discover The Force availability). You probably shouldn't check Walmart for Movie Heroes for a while. (That sounds funny doesn't it? Who is looking for Movie Heroes?)

So, the Movie Heroes line was "cancelled" but for only a moment or two. And it has been "reincarnated" to include the Discover The Force line seamlessly. It goes without saying that the Discover The Force SKU is "gone" too and it will be forever mixed with the Movie Heroes line until that line is officially cancelled and deleted. This action, as best as our memories can recall, is unprecedented. We have never seen exclusive products get mixed in with the general release products. Maybe Walmart was sick of three lines that look the same. It's a miracle that The Clone Wars line didn't get thrown into the mix as well. So there you have it. It took some time to figure out what was going on at Walmart. But take a look. You won't find the "DTF" shelf tags anywhere anymore. You also shouldn't see "SW Movie Legends" shelf tags anymore either. And you also won't see the Discover The Force line go on clearance (until the Movie Heroes line does). The clerks at Walmart were equally confused as well, so you probably heard a million different explanations if you asked them. Thank you for your patience with us as we distilled all of the information we obtained over the last few weeks. It has been entertaining at best. Leave your comments below!
