Research Droids Reviews: August 1, 2012 – August 7, 2012

Princess Leia (Bespin Outfit) - TVC - Basic (VC111)
What Star Wars collector doesn’t get excited about an all-new Princess Leia action figure? That excitement normally turns to elation especially when it’s a version of her from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Way back in 1980, Princess Leia Organa (Bespin Gown) was the very first version of the character from the new The Empire Strikes Back Kenner basic figure line.... (read the full review)

Jar Jar Binks - TVC - Basic (VC108)
So close, yet a little too far away for our own liking. Let’s just get it out in the open. You either love or hate Jar Jar Binks. We get it. But throughout the years, the less he talked, the more Star Wars fans were able to appreciate the character. Gungans are indeed an awesome species. Their design is very intriguing and the empathy blatantly displayed in their eyes is both heartwarming and encouraging.... (read the full review)

Darth Vader - TVC - Basic (VC115)
One figure announced at 2012’s NY Toy Fair that made us screech with excitement was the new The Vintage Collection Darth Vader figure based on the scene in Return Of The Jedi where he is overcome by Emperor Palpatine’s Force lightning while trying to save his son, Luke Skywalker, from certain death. The scene was intense and the radiation of the lightning gave us a flash or two of Darth Vader’s skeletal structure underneath.... (read the full review)

Like it or not, the orange-pauldron Sandtrooper squad leader is synonymous with Episode IV..... (read the full review)

Shock Trooper - TVC - Basic (VC110)
It’s often true that when something good comes around, something bad isn’t too far behind. In the case of the 2012 TVC Shock Trooper, good and bad comes hand in hand. Hasbro seems to have an unofficial goal to update all of the movie based clones in the new 2011 TVC Clone Trooper (VC45) format. When it comes to the Episode II (or phase I) clones, it’s a wonderful thing.... (read the full review)

Clone Trooper Lieutenant - TVC - Basic (VC109)
When Hasbro creates a new base clone trooper sculpt, it goes without saying that it’s going to be used countless times to bring the rest of the clone ranks into our collection. A simple Clone Trooper (phase I) sculpt is responsible for bring us captains, commanders, lieutenants and sergeants. And a base Clone Trooper (phase II) sculpt is responsible for brining us 501st Legion Troopers, 212th Attack Battalion clones, Shock Troopers, 41st Elite Corps clones and many, many more.... Imperial Stormtrooper (McQuarrie Concept) - Mini Busts
Long term Star Wars fans have always highly regarded Ralph McQuarrie as one of the greatest geniuses to have ever lived. He greatly responsible for why the Star Wars universe and its characters look they way they do. Were it not for his visions, Star Wars would have been a completely different movie altogether. You’ve probably heard that said thousands of times by now, but it’s true.... (read the full review)
