Hasbro Is Moving On.... Well, At Least From The Sound Of This Q&A

Posted by Paul | October 09, 2016 at 07:21 PM ET

While you wait for our own Hasbro Q&A, I'd suggest listening to the Hasbro Q&A from our friends at Imperial Shipyards. A couple of the same questions that get asked every year get asked again (like TVC's return – which is expected), but they also asked some other great questions that have allowed Hasbro to let their guard down a bit and reveal a little bit more about their thought processes; something that they've held close to the vest and have been reluctant to reveal. I truly appreciate their honesty and candor, but it's true that they are focused on a completely different market now. Collectors that have supported the line since 1995 clearly are not high on their priority list (perhaps not because they're intentionally disregarding us, but because they are trying to grasp a new [read: younger] market). Listen, but it's evident that they're trying to obtain a new audience of younglings that will carry the hobby when we're (original Kenner kids) old and gray and senile. They also conceded that 3.75" super-articulated figures aren't financially viable for the brand. It has to do with what we're willing to pay for the figures and the reduced market that currently exists. From their perspective, more (2.25") is apparently more and justifies the $19.99 price point of TBS6 (even though most can be found for $14.99 or less at some point during their retail offering). Now, our Q&A conversation reveals some hope that I just didn't get from their Q&A, but we'll let you be the judge. Anyhow, we won't spoil it all for you. Check out what they had to say and then be sure to sound off in our comments!
