The Black Series Collection From Italy Explained By A Native Italian

Posted by Paul | April 14, 2016 at 11:44 AM ET

Italian reader Andrea G. saw our post about The Black Series subscription collection making its way to his country. He has all the details to share with us. Click through for more.

Hi,

I'm a guy from Italy which likes to collect star wars action figures, I don't define myself a collector because you guys from USA are the serious ones :-) I just only pick some figures that I like and remove them from boxes to play with them!

First of all I want to thank you for the great job you make with your website. Collecting from Italy is very very [difficult], and having a reference material so much detailed and updated like the one your website provides is a big gift for me, because it is very hard to find star wars figures from the running series in stores and almost impossible to find old ones from previous collections, so I have to buy almost all of them from eBay, so it is very important for me to choose them carefully!

But I digress, I write to you about the infamous Black Series collection running in Italy associated with the Italian sport newspaper "La Gazzetta dello Sport". I already wrote something in the comments section but I would like to expand the information a little.

This collection works as follows: every two weeks/ a month you can buy at the news-stand a new number of the collection together with the newspaper, or you can order it online from the newspaper store.

The object you buy is a big cardboard with photos that contain the figure itself with its cardboard. Up until now these figures are simply figures from the yellow or blue black series line, with no modifications at all. I see the guys on the comments wondering about some figures that seem different from the ones they have but I have to warn you that I think some pictures are really wrong. For example the first figure should have been the Vader from the blue line #03 but what I found at the store was the Vader #06 of the yellow one.

So I'm quite sure all figures non-TFA are from these two series with no modifications. I can't speak about 6'' figures, because I don't collect them.

About the TFA figures, currently I can find only loose pictures of Finn, Rey, Poe so I don't know if they will arrive with the Walmart package (the red/black one) or something else. Being figures set to arrive later in the year, the online store still doesn't provide any info, but only a "COMING SOON" banner.

Please notice also that they already changed the calendar: next figure should have been YAVIN Ceremony Leia, which is anyway a Walmart Black series, but they postponed it; so I think it is not sure if these figures will ever in fact arrive...

Finally: currently the collection is officially composed of 25 figures, following the calendar I attach. I saw on your website the screenshot with Luke EP VII listed as #33, but I can't find it anywhere on the store or else.

I only found some non-official info that say that the collection will span 40 figures.

So I guess that for now they are planning to expand the collection from 25 to 40, but it is not official and it maybe will depend from what Hasbro will REALLY produce.

So having found an information about EPVII Luke means there's the idea it will be produced, but it is not certain yet

I hope this information will help you; rest assured that whatever arrive in Italy is something you will find sooooo much before in USA, we don't get any exclusive!

Me I'm still trying to find my Old Captain Rex force awakens figure (or anything from waves 3 and 4) without having to buy it on eBay and pay it twice its value ;-)

Sorry for my English grammar, have a nice day

Andrea
