What's The Deal With Disney Elite Series Figures?

Posted by Paul | October 04, 2015 at 08:13 PM ET

JTA reader Jaret T. sends us his own interesting analysis and questions on the Disney Elite Series metal figures. We have to admit that we don't understand the distribution on these fully yet either, and why no one who should knows doesn't. However, the rumor for a couple of weeks now has been that stores and online will indeed see additional product). Click through for more.

JTA,

Not sure if this was on your radar. The Disney Store Online no longer shows any Die-cast Elite figures available except for Darth Maul. It is assumed they are sold out. With previous offerings like the Elite ships there were never any re-stocks in the stores. With this in mind it is assumed the figures will never be restocked. These figures seem to be popular and eBay has prices of Captain Phasma and others going for double to triple their original price of $24.99. I though it strange that the last to go offline from their site before Darth Maul was the First Order Stormtrooper. I mean Finn sold out before the Stormtrooper. When these were stocked it looks like the store would get a case of 8 figures of the same person. My store received two boxes of Darth Maul for a total of 16 figures. Disney has not stated if these were limited and wondering if the actual parks are loaded with them. I navigated over to the Disney Store UK and was shocked that they have all 7 figures available for purchase.

Now I am wondering what the heck is up with the U.S. And why this is? The issue is that the UK site does not ship to the U.S. I tried and the site will not let you. If you go to a Disney Store they have not stocked much since Force Friday. I am speculating stock may be staggered throughout the year. To keep interest high trailers have been releases in increments. The two that are out really to not reveal too much and we have yet seen the traditional 2 minute or more official trailer. It seems Disney may be doing the same with toys on their side and Hasbro.

Check out the Disney UK store stock HERE.

With the Elite series in mind I think we will see this product again in stores and online by years end. This series of new figures has been a breath of fresh air for collecting. I collect the Black 6" as well as the Bandai S.H. Series. My fondness is for the smaller figures but Hasbro direction of 5 poa, cheaper plastic, and no bang for the buck has turned me off on this line. That is not to say I haven't bought ant but eagerly wait for the Walmart Black series line. The Disney Elite series have peaked my interest and collectible nature. I missed out on Phasma, Rey, and Flametrooper. The screw holes in the back do not bother me. I had tons of small G.I. joe figures in the 80s with screw holes and thought nothing of it. I am really hoping Disney re-stocks these Elite figures and after seeing the UK site maybe they will. If not, I might be paying a lot more for that Elite Captain Phasma figure on eBay.

Thank you for letting me rant and would love to hear the opinions from the JTA team.
