Conspiracy? Freaky Coincidence? Or Just Bad Luck?

Posted by Paul | October 17, 2014 at 08:01 PM ET

You know what Obi-Wan says about "luck" so it can't be that. It's often said that truth is stranger than fiction. And we believe this definitely applies to the recent Star Wars "Shadow Of The Dark Side" vehicle two-packs showing up at both Kmart and Ollie's, especially when it comes to faithful JTA reader Mike R.'s own purchases. He sends us a nearly unbelievable tale of what was "wrong" with almost every single vehicle he bought in these Special Value multipacks. Were they all (in one form or another) reject vehicles? Or did they just coincidentally have one problem or another? You better check out the contents of your boxes, because you probably won't believe what Mike has discovered with his own. You know that we are generally conspiracy theorists, but will this tale also bring you to the dark side of faith as well? Click through for more....

Hey Guys,

I have a conspiracy theory for you. I just finally got around to opening all of the Clone Wars and Ep. III vehicles I got at Ollie’s a while back during the $19.99 2-pack craze. Every single vehicle that I opened had some kind of issue with it, except *maybe* one or two. One was packed with the wrong instruction sheet, one was packed with the wrong missiles, one was packed with severely bent missiles that wouldn’t load in the vehicle, one was missing two parts, one was packed with two sets of the same sticker sheet (which was actually a bonus I guess), one was packed with the wrong sticker sheet, etc. It struck me as odd that out of 14 vehicles there would be some kind of glitch (even if it was a minor one) with just about every single one of them.

I’m not complaining as $10 is still a great price for these vehicles but it lead me to wonder if maybe the Hasbro QC department had somehow flagged these as having some kind of known problem and that’s part of why they ended up at Ollie’s. But it also seems like if they knew there was an issue they would have resolved it before the boxes were sealed and shipped. Unless it was too much trouble? Has anyone else reported anything like this? I’ve never seen this many packing flaws at regular retail before, but I also can’t say I’ve unpacked 14 vehicles at one time before either.

(And in case anyone asks, I did open them one at a time and cleaned up the mess from one before moving on to the next so it wasn’t a situation where I was getting stuff mixed up from box to box.)

Regards,

Mike R.
