Research Droids Reviews: November 6, 2013 – November 19, 2013

Ayy Vida (Outlander Nightclub Patron) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #38)
If you think BoShek was a completely random choice for an action figure, then Ayy Vida (Outlander Nightclub Patron) is the most perplexing and perhaps most nonsensical action figure to ever be made. Now don’t get us wrong. We love the sexy nature of most Twi’leks, but this action figure came out of left field.... (read the full review)

Elan Sleazebaggano (Outlander Nightclub Encounter) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #40)
You’ll find that there are multiple characters in the Outlander Club in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of The Clones that have ties to gangster Hat Lo. Elan Sleazebaggano is one such patron. It helps to explain why Hasbro created so many characters specifically from this sequence of film with very short times spans or contemporary time spans as the others since they are all related to one degree or another.... Obi-Wan Kenobi (Outlander Nightclub Encounter) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #39)
Obi-Wan Kenobi (Outlander Nightclub Encounter) finishes up all of the Outlander Nightclub denizens made by Hasbro in the third phase of the Star Wars “Saga” line. Maybe not a necessary figure in and of itself, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Outlander Nightclub Encounter) is a necessary purchase so you can combine it with the bar section that comes with Elan Sleazebaggano (Outlander Nightclub Encounter) (’03 #40) to complete and much of the bar as Hasbro sees fit.... C-3PO (Tatooine Ambush) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #21)
The Star Wars “Saga” release of C-3PO has a couple of multiple-personality issues. But you would only know that from the packaging in which he is contained, and not the figure loose outside of it. Based on the scene where he is attacked by a Tusken Raider and loses his left arm, the packaging description, and even to a degree the subtitle of this figure are a bit misleading about which version of C-3PO this figure represents.... Boba Fett (The Pit Of Carkoon) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #08)
Any new Boba Fett figure in any give basic figure line is a wonderful and interesting addition, right? That may not be the full sentiment for Hasbro’s 2003 Star Wars “Saga” interpretation. Boba Fett (The Pit Of Carkoon) comes with a few too many special features that not only affect the integrity of the sculpt, but also prove to be completely unnecessary.... (read the full review)

Darth Plagueis - TBS - Basic (#18)
We hope the many of you out there in the collective collector universe are happy with the rumor, official reveal and subsequent release of Darth Plagueis, a character that we just don’t plain get, but also a character that we do indeed hold respect for as it has been the voice of the people that has brought him to fruition.... (read the full review)

Clone Commander Neyo - TBS - Basic (#16)
Wow. We’re quite taken with the Clone Commander Neyo action figure from The Black Series basic figure line. It certainly isn’t a flawless action figure, but Hasbro has done so many incredible things right with this action figure and it’s hard to not pay note to what makes this the now definitive version of this character.... (read the full review)

Merumeru - TBS - Basic (#15)
There are many facts when it comes to Hasbro and Star Wars collectors. One of these facts is that collectors love Wookiees and Hasbro doesn’t like releasing them consistently. Would you believe that almost a year short of a decade has passed since Hasbro released a Wookiee action figure in the basic figure line.... (read the full review)

Vizam - TBS - Basic (#17)
It’s hard to believe how many years slip by us before some of the earliest figures from The Power Of The Force “2” line get revisited. Vizam, who originally was released to collectors simply as Nikto in the hugely popular 1999 POTF2 Jabba’s Skiff Guards Cinema Scenes set, gets an incredible update in The Black Series basic figure line after 14 years.... (read the full review)

Mace Windu - TBS - Basic (#19)
Well blow me down! Hasbro has made an enhancement to the “basic” Mace Windu sculpt and it may sadly go unrecognized by the members of the collecting community because of passing on The Black Series Mace Windu (#19) figure. The figure is disappointingly getting a negative rap from collectors.... (read the full review)

Chewbacca (Mynock Hunt) - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #14)
You have to hand it to Hasbro that they find ways to make characters that appear the same throughout the films unique. Whether we get a desert worn versus shiny C-3PO, or an R2-D2 with or without utility arms, small differences are the boatloads of gravy that make the hobby so much fun and the action figures that are part of it so incredibly interesting.... (read the full review)

Han Solo (Hoth Rescue) [Blue] - SW [S - P2] - Basic (’03 #13)
One figure that Hasbro didn’t create with much grace in the POTF2 line was Han Solo (Hoth Outfit). From the moment it was released it was evident an all new approach and sculpt was needed. Why was his hood down and his cap on his head? Why was he standing like he is in the middle of doing the hokey pokey.... (read the full review)

Savage Opress (The Clone Wars) - Maquettes
No matter what the latest Star Wars multimedia event, there will always be a new villain to round out the cast. In The Clone Wars however, a new villain would pop up around almost every corner. Whether it be a newly discovered Separatist leader, or some pawn of the Sith, The Clone Wars was full of rich storylines that helped explain things we just didn’t understand in the Original Trilogy and Prequel Trilogy (if you believed such things).... (read the full review)

Han Solo (Hoth Rescue) [Brown] - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #13)
One figure that Hasbro didn’t create with much grace in the POTF2 line was Han Solo (Hoth Outfit). From the moment it was released it was evident an all new approach and sculpt was needed. Why was his hood down and his cap on his head? Why was he standing like he is in the middle of doing the hokey pokey? And what in the world was up with the freaky gripping motion that his hands were making.... (read the full review)
