Research Droids Reviews: October 23, 2013 – November 5, 2013

Boba Fett (First Shot) - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Gentle Giant Ltd. is evidently thinking outside of the box when it comes to collectibles in the Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures line. And they do so while appealing to adult collectors who grew up with the original vintage Kenner line of action figures.... (read the full review)

Imperial Dignitary Janus Greejatus (Death Star Procession) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #35)
Hasbro does indeed listen to collectors, but their attention may not be fully on point. When collectors started to jones for an Imperial Dignitary action figure, most assumed that when Hasbro got to it that it would likely be a reinvention of the classic 1985 The Power Of The Force Imperial Dignitary action figure.... (read the full review)

Imperial Dignitary Kren Blista-Vanee (Death Star Procession) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #41)
While we didn’t get a modern update to Sim Aloo in the Star Wars “Saga” line, we did get two new and previously unmade Imperial Dignitary action figures instead. Maybe not the first choice for all collectors, they have been warmly welcomed by many and in general Hasbro did a fantastic job with both of them.... (read the full review)

Admiral Ozzel (Executor Assault) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’04 #16)
It seems to take a lot for Hasbro to make the many various Imperial officers in action figure form that appear in the Original Trilogy of Star Wars. Sure, they have added a random Imperial officer here and there into the basic figure lineup, but they do it without any real consistency.... (read the full review)

Dengar (Executor Meeting) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’04 #17)
When Hasbro nails an action figure, collectors get happy. This sentiment is felt with Dengar (Executor Meeting) from the Star Wars “Saga” line. It won’t necessarily appeal to those who refer articulation to anything else, but Hasbro did knock this one out of the park, if you can accept it for what it is.... (read the full review)

FA-4 - LC [2] - Droid Factory
So much has changed on a dime with the many plans Hasbro had for the basic figures lines between Toy Fair 2012 and Toy Fair 2013 that its kept collectors’ minds whirling around in complete confusion that borders on chaos. That may be melodramatic, but a much anticipated basic figure line, Legacy Collection [2] got cancelled because of very murky reasons.... (read the full review)

TC-70 (Jabba The Hutt’s Protocol Droid) - LC [2] - Build A Droid
TC-70 is a figure that is always indirectly enwrapped in scandal or controversy. In 2009, he was part of the highly anticipated Jabba’s Palace Battle Packs set from The Clone Wars line. If you recall, that was the era with one dramatic announcement after another that Hasbro couldn’t cost things out and figures were typically the brunt of the cuts.... (read the full review)

212th Battalion Clone Trooper - LC [2] - Droid Factory
The circle is now complete. Hasbro has finally released every Episode III phase II that appeared onscreen in the revised TVC Clone Trooper (VC45) body sculpt. If you think about it, it didn’t take them that long to knock them all out. Some are better than others, but they all share one universal flaw.... (read the full review)

Sandtrooper - LC [2] - Droid Factory
Hasbro is slowly but surely making efforts to right what was wrong with the Sandtrooper action figure. It’s just a shame that recent figures just haven’t had the widespread availability they should for such a core character from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.... (read the full review)

Sun Fac - LC [2] - Droid Factory
The Legacy Collection [2] Droid Factory line was originally planned to focus on characters from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones before it got cancelled. You see, Lucasfilm Ltd. had planned to re-release all of the Star Wars films in theaters, but for the first time in 3D.... (read the full review)

Battle Droid - LC [2] - Droid Factory
When Hasbro released the Battle Droid (VC78) figure in the first wave of 2012 of The Vintage Collection, most of us didn’t expect that then that the figure would become one of the worst peg-warming action figures in years.... (read the full review)

Black Squadron TIE Pilot - LC [2] - Droid Factory
We have come to the point in the Hasbro Star Wars line where it’s no longer acceptable to release again the Imperial Pilot (TIE Fighter) originally from 2009’s LC Imperial Pilot Legacy (Series II) Evolutions set. It’s served its purpose well (we suppose) and it’s now time to deliver unto collectors at the very least a severely retooled version of this action figure or at the very mist an all-new sculpt.... (read the full review)

Lt. Dannl Faytonni (Coruscant Outlander Club) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #29)
Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones gave George Lucas an opportunity to feature some of the actors who played characters that traditionally had their faces covered in previous films. It was really nothing knew however. Jeremy Bulloch got to play an Imperial officer in addition to playing the coolest bounty hunter in the galaxy.... (read the full review)

Achk Med-Beq (Coruscant Outlander Club) - SW [S - P3] - Basic (’03 #37)
Like it or not, the man who played Jar Jar Binks made a cameo appearance in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. As a character that didn’t resonate fully with Star Wars fans, Jar Jar Binks is often misunderstood to the point of being despised.... (read the full review)
