Research Droids Reviews: January 2, 2013 – January 15, 2013

Yoda's Jedi Attack Fighter With Yoda & Super Battle Droid - SW [AOTC/ROTS 3D] - Deluxe
Well, we guess Yoda has his own Jedi starfighter. Why not? All the other Jedi do. Some will love and others will despise the 2013 Class I product line. Our affection for it lies somewhere on the fence.... (read the full review)

MTT Droid Fighter With Battle Droid & Obi-Wan Kenobi - SW [AOTC/ROTS 3D] - Deluxe
Does anyone else find it peculiar that Hasbro would continue to focus on quasi-Episode I specific type toys for the new 2013 product year? That’s what they did with the MTT Droid Fighter With Battle Droid & Obi-Wan Kenobi set.... (read the full review)

501st Legion Attack Dropship With Clone Pilot & Battle Droid - SW [AOTC/ROTS 3D] - Deluxe
What the heck is going on anymore? It’s 2013 and many collectors haven’t even seen 2012’s SW [TPM 3D] Republic Attack Dropship With Clone Pilot Class I set and a new one with an all-new paint job has already been released for the 2013 lineup.... (read the full review)

Feltipern Trevagg (Cantina Encounter) - OTC - Basic ('05 #6)
Hasbro had a lot on their plates between 2002 and 2005. They seemed to be endlessly running around trying to plan a solid basic figure lineup from one year to the next. 2002 and 2005 are also the years that Star Wars fans were treated to Episode II and Episode III so it’s no wonder why Hasbro was chaotically finding themselves during this period.... (read the full review)

Myo (Cantina Encounter) - OTC - Basic ('05 #7)
If there has been one cantina alien high on our own wish lists for years, it would have to be Myo. Thankfully Hasbro made us wait several years in a more developed basic figure lineup so they could scale him accurately and increase the number of articulation points and reduce or prevent the likelihood that he would age out and become obsolete.... (read the full review)

Dannik Jerriko (Cantina Encounter) - OTC - Basic ('05 #8)
Hasbro could never go wrong by including a few cantina patrons in the basic figure lineup each year. What is it about this hive of scum and villainy that just makes collectors drool at the thought of getting each and every one of them permanently cast in plastic? The zeal for them seems to have no end in sight.... (read the full review)

Pablo-Jill (Geonosis Arena) - OTC - Basic ('05 #1)
Obviously the biggest event for Star Wars fans was the release of the final film in the Prequel Trilogy Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. The film would answer many of the questions die-hard Star Wars fans had on how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader and would bring an end to the Star Wars saga as we knew it.... (read the full review)

Yarua (Coruscant Senate) - OTC - Basic ('05 #2)
Who doesn’t love Wookiees? Aside from Chewbacca, the Wookiee species had very little presence in Episode I and Episode II. (George Lucas would more than make up for that in Episode III with the Battle of Kashyyyk.) Thankfully, Hasbro took notice of their very small role and decided to work up one for the basic figure lineup.... (read the full review)

Sly Moore (Coruscant Senate) - OTC - Basic ('05 #3)
Is there a more eerie Star Wars character than Sly Moore. Not only does she have the perfect name for the type of role she had in Episode II (and subsequently Episode III), she resembles the Sith Apprentice Asajj Ventress, although they are two distinct species.... (read the full review)

Queen Amidala (Celebration Ceremony) - OTC - Basic ('05 #4)
If you were born and raised with the Original Trilogy of Star Wars films, it’s a pretty good bet that you weren’t entirely thrilled with Episode I. Lucasfilm Ltd. did a great job promoting the film and licensees did an ever better job on releasing product based on the film. The Phantom Menace broke a ton of movie records.... (read the full review)

Rabé (Queen's Chambers) - OTC - Basic ('05 #5)
Fans who grew up with the Original Trilogy absolutely loved the idea of receiving a Luke Skywalker (In Stormtrooper Disguise) or Princess Leia Organa (In Boushh Disguise) action figure – just for the removable helmet alone.... (read the full review)

Jar Jar Binks With W. Wald - Mini Busts
Collectors of Gentle Giant Ltd.’s Mini Bust line for years have wanted to see Jar Jar Binks. After ten years (almost to the day) the wait is over and now Jar Jar Binks can be added to the rest of the characters based on The Phantom Menace, which to date has the least amount of characters in the Mini Bust format.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH19)
One of the things that made us shake our heads in disbelief (as longtime collectors) was the uproar made by the collecting community complaining that Hasbro named 2010’s TVC Darth Vader [Anakin Skywalker] (VC13) figure originally as Anakin Skywalker when clearly he was “Darth Vader” at this point in the film. OK, so you’re all right.... (read the full review)

Sandtrooper - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH23)
With all of the belly-aching we hear Hasbro make with regards to expenses from tooling costs and the amount of plastic it takes to bring us our figures, they sure know how to blow out the budget with some sculpts that just aren’t necessary.... (read the full review)
