Research Droids Reviews: December 5, 2012 – December 18, 2012

Bantha With Tusken Raiders [Version 2] - TAC - Battle Packs (Exclusive)
Let’s face it, the films that make up the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy really didn’t come with that many surprises. Lines that began hearts thumping like “No, I am your father!” were nonexistent and other than establishing three new main heroes in the films and learning the story of how they met is pretty much the extent of what we didn’t know.... Emperor Palpatine - ROTS - Deluxe
Sometimes you have to laugh with (not at) Hasbro for some of their efforts in the Revenge Of The Sith Deluxe line. While privy to some key elements of the film, not every last secret can be revealed and they have to use their creativity to complete concepts for toys they bring forth into the line..... (read the full review)

General Grievous - ROTS - Deluxe
There are some Star Wars action figures that require a digestion period. Time is often needed to develop some honest and true appreciation and only by savoring it can one make an informed judgment on just how good (or how bad it is). We feel that really applies to 2005’s ROTS General Grievous Deluxe figure.... (read the full review)

Anakin Skywalker - ROTS - Deluxe
If Revenge Of The Sith never got released after Hasbro released their corresponding toy line in April of 2005, all of us would have pretty different ideas about what actually happened in the film. If the Anakin Skywalker Deluxe figure is any indication, we would be asking ourselves “wait, didn’t he get burned instead of changing into Darth Vader?”.... (read the full review)

Stass Allie - ROTS - Deluxe
The identity of Stass Allie has been muddled because multiple actresses had to be used to film all of her scenes in the Prequel Trilogy. In fact, there are three unique actresses to who played and the one used on the Revenge Of The Sith promotional images of the character ended up not even being used in the film. How is that for complete and utter confusion?.... (read the full review)

Emperor Palpatine - Mini Busts
There have been some “off” moments in Gentle Giant’s illustrious Mini Bust line career, but when they do make a great piece watch out because words will likely be unable to express just how magnificent they are. That’s exactly how we feel about 2006’s Emperor Palpatine Mini Bust based on his Senate duel with Yoda in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith.... (read the full review)

Ultimate Gift Set (104th Battalion "Wolf Pack" Clone Troopers) - SW [TPM 3D] - Exclusive
You would have to be living under a rock somewhere outside of the USA to not have an inkling what an utter debacle 2012 was for Star Wars collectors. Then again, it’s all a domino effect so we know our friends across the globe have been equally frustrated.... (read the full review)

Luke Skywalker - Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures
Is it an accurate assessment to refer to 1978’s Luke Skywalker as Star Wars action figure numero uno? He made his appearance along with three other classic figure in the Early Bird set, so technically he was part of a quartet for the first flight of the Star Wars line, but he always seems to appear first in listings and he was the first action figure in many of our collections when we were all young fans.... 212th Attack Battalion: Utapau (2nd Airborne Company) - Militaries Of Star Wars - 1:6 Scale Figures
Well fans of Sideshow Collectibles’ 1:6 Scale Figures lines, we are getting closer and closer to the bottom of the barrel of phase I and Phase II clones from the Prequel Trilogy. While there are a ton of clones that can be made that aren’t from the films, it’s nice to know that Sideshow Collectibles have made it a goal to complete the ones see in the movies a priority.... Aayla Secura - Premium Format Figures
We admit that we more often than not provide our readers with sugary sweet reviews on many Star Wars products released across the many licensees who make them. We’re easily pleased and we air our zeal for all Star Wars items with equality. While we do our best to itemize the pros and cons of each and every item we review, we still try to find a bright side to the universe for even the biggest bombs.... (read the full review)

Shadow Stormtrooper - TSC - Basic (Exclusive)
Although the Blackhole Stormtrooper is one of the earliest Expanded Universe characters introduced, it wasn’t until 2006 that Hasbro decided to make an action figure based on this very unique Star Wars character. Granted, the EU source that they are basing the 2006 TSC Shadow Stormtrooper figure on is from a special group of Blackhole Stormtroopers under the leadership of Carnor Jax.... Coruscant Clone Trooper - Mini Busts
Things changed for the better by the time Gentle Giant Ltd. released the Coruscant Clone Trooper Deluxe Mini Bust. For the very first time, an interchangeable human clone portrait was included for versatility and uniqueness. Before that, Gentle Giant Lt. release a plain white Clone Trooper, the 501st Legion Trooper, the 212th Attack Battalion Clone Trooper and Shock Trooper Mini Busts in Deluxe style as well, but none came with the head of a Jango Fett lookalike.... Admiral Ackbar - Mini Busts
Who doesn’t associate Admiral Ackbar with the line “It’s a trap”? The Mon Calamari hero was instantly embraced as soon as Star Wars fans feasted their eyes upon him, which makes us want to say "Admiral Ackbar please!" Looking a whole lot more like a humanoid lobster than a squid, Admiral Ackbar proudly played a significant role in the Battle of Endor to defeat the Galactic Empire once and for all to restore peace to the galaxy.... Princess Leia In Boushh Disguise - Mini Busts
By the time Revenge Of The Sith came to pass, Gentle Giant Ltd. really started to step up their game when it came to the characters designed fro their Mini Busts line. They were already a couple years into making fully realized versions of characters from the waist up (including arms and other details), but the level of detail was becoming more and more unprecedented as time moved forward. Princess Leia In Boushh Disguise was a favorite pick by those who collect this line, so Gentle Giant Ltd. ensured that she became part of the 2005 lineup.... (read the full review)
