Research Droids Reviews: May 2, 2012 – May 8, 2012

Nom Anor - TVC - Basic (VC59)
The Yuuzhan Vong and the New Jedi Order books are some of the most controversial entries into the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Despite your feeling on the overall series, one thing that made the Yuuzhan Vong interesting as a species was the character of Nom Anor.... (read the full review)

Clone Trooper (501st Trooper) - TVC - Basic (VC60)
It’s time to face the music. Let’s be honest, the 501st Legion is one the most popular, if not the most popular, clone battalions in the entire Star Wars saga. Sadly, Hasbro has found a way top screw it up in the basic figure line. Whether it’s an incorrectly shaped color flash on the helmet or stripes that do not match the color of the rest of the blue on the armor, we just can’t seem to get a “perfect” one for our collection.... Dewback - 1:6 Scale Figures
If you could sum up the 1:6 scale Dewback in one word it would have to be BIG! Sideshow Collectibles first ventured outside of the 1:6 scale norm when they surprised everyone with the huge Jabba the Hutt and Throne environment. They took it to the next level with Yoda’s Hutt. Now they have ventured into a new arena that they simply call 1:6 Scale Related Products (although the official box description refers to it as a 1:6 scale figure).... (read the full review)

Jar Jar Binks - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH13)
Love him or hate him, Jar Jar Binks “knows” how to make a statement in the basic figure line. He’s arguably the Star Wars character to despise, an easy target of sorts, but one things Hasbro has always seem to execute without issue is how well he turns out in the basic figure lines he’s appeared. Let’s face it, has there really been a bad Jar Jar Binks ever?.... (read the full review)

Obi-Wan Kenobi - SW [TPM 3D] - Movie Heroes (MH16)
The only thing worse than getting a Star Wars basic figure with action features, is one that has them and then all-new parts that should have been saved for another more important figure. We’re actually specifically calling out 2012’s SW [TPM 3D] Obi-Wan Kenobi (MH16) because that’s exactly how you can sum him up.... (read the full review)

Yoda (In 3D Glasses) - Mini Busts
What would be the best way to commemorate the 3D release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace? If you ask Gentle Giant Ltd., they would say it would be their Yoda (In 3D Glasses) WonderCon exclusive Mini Bust. We’re not so inclined to feel the same way. We’re stuck on how to exactly feel when Star Wars “stuff” imitates real world culture.... (read the full review)

Yoda & R2-D2 - Maquettes
Gentle Giant Ltd.’s line of Star Wars Animated Maquettes can be hit or miss. Just like any other collection of high-end statues, there are going to be some that grasp your attention while others can fall by the wayside because they just aren’t engaging enough. The 2007 World Tour Exclusive Yoda & R2-D2 Maquette is absolutely one of Gentle Giant Ltd.’s highpoints.... (read the full review)
