Research Droids Reviews: December 21, 2011 – December 27, 2011

Commander Gree - Maquettes
Gentle Giant Ltd. made it one of the primary goals to bring a line of Maquettes to Star Wars collectors. At the time the did this, Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars micro-series was all the rage and they initially developed five spectacular collectible Maquettes based on some of the most popular characters in the series.... Commander Gree (41st Elite Corps) - Militaries Of Star Wars - 1:6 Scale Figures
One of the most anticipated 1:6 Scale Figures of all time from Sideshow Collectibles was Commander Gree. After many years of banging out various Episode III clones, collectors wondered if the clone commander would ever be joining their respective battalions.... (read the full review)

Starspeeder 1000 - ST - Exclusive
We have to tell you right from the start that we never had so much fun playing with an Expanded Universe Star Wars vehicle (including many of the movie-specific vehicles Hasbro releases in every Star Wars line) than we did with the Star Tours Starspeeder 1000.... (read the full review)

Darth Vader (Thank The Maker) - Mini Busts
Gentle Giant Ltd. really changed things up for Premier Guild Members and the annual Holiday Mini Bust they create for them for the 2011 calendar year. Instead of including some gimmicky holiday-themed interchangeable accessory to switch out, they’ve gone above and beyond to create a Mini Bust with three specific looks from three different sources.... There aren’t too many ways Sideshow Collectibles can amortize the cost unique body types for characters like Darth Vader and Yoda unless they can come up with new and interesting takes on them. Yoda is identical throughout the Original Trilogy and Darth Vader is almost the same throughout as well, save for his unique look in Episode IV.... (read the full review)

Princess Leia Organa As Jabba's Slave - Mini Busts
What the heck goes awry sometimes in between prototype and production sample? When a licensee like Gentle Giant Ltd. announces a cool polystone collectible and then shows the prototype through preliminary solicitation photography, we expect to get (at worst) a close or similar looking product.... Luke Skywalker (Tatooine) - Mini Busts
Well, we certainly knew what Gentle Giant Ltd. was attempting to accomplish with the Luke Skywalker (Tatooine) Mini Bust, but in the end we’re not so sure if we can admit it works. Obviously inspired from the classic Hildebrandt Star War poster (which also made its way to the front of the first 21 Kenner action figures as well), and part inspiration from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Gentle Giant Ltd. releases a less than exciting version of our favorite Tatooine farm boy....
