A Closer Look At TBS6 Bossk And How It Has Or Has Not Changed

Posted by Paul | January 17, 2015 at 03:52 PM ET

JTA reader Mike R. takes some time to compare the prototype Bossk to the production image that has recently surfaced on eBay. It goes without saying it is much too early to begin to worry about this figure. And it even looks like a few things has been bettered on him, but click through to read Mike's points. In fact, believe it or not, the eBay sample has better paint operations than the prototype. (For the record, the prototype never grabbed me. I think there are improvements to the figure in all honesty.) Click through for more.

JTA,

I am by no means an expert on the Bossk character, but comparing the high res photo sample released by Hasbro for the Black Series 6" figure and the sample up for sale on eBay right now...there are some strange discrepancies.

First the head sculpt. I may be wrong, but doesn't it look like a completely different sculpt? There is the non-articulating jaw issue... but others as well. The teeth in the Hasbro sample look very well defined while in the eBay sample they look to be more like solid painted sections with little or no gaps between the teeth. And then the tongue. It may just be the low res photo on the eBay sample and the angle it was taken, but the inside of the mouth, the tongue, and especially the teeth do not look to be the same at all.

Then the legs. In the Hasbro sample image, the "missing" flare pistol cartridge is on his left leg. In the eBay sample the "missing" cartridge is on his right leg. I believe in production stills from Empire, the "missing" cartridge is on his right leg.... I could be wrong. And then there are the ankle joints... In the Hasbro image they look correct with the joint very well hidden. In the eBay sample they are completely visible. Almost like his feet are on backwards or something. It could be just the way the eBay seller posed the feet? There also seems to be a HUGE lack of detailing on the eBay sample's lower legs and feet.

Overall, it just looks like a completely different figure than what we thought we were getting if these things are indeed true. The Hasbro sample is fantastic in my opinion, while the first glimpse on eBay of what we may be getting just looks horrible.

So looking at a few other examples of the Bossk 6" figure online it does look like the sample up for sale on eBay is pretty accurate to what we will be getting.

I looked at more images of the prototype shown at SDCC 2014, and you can clearly see the articulated jaw has been modified to a non-articulated jaw in the final release... Which probably explains the re-tooled jaw, mouth, and teeth.

It also looks like they corrected the "missing" cartridge and put it on the correct leg. (Right leg)

The boxed images of the upcoming Bossk release look pretty darn close to the one up on eBay.

Such a shame about the articulated jaw being nixed . And those ankle joints on the final figure as compared to the prototype....ugh. :(
