Jedi Temple Archives' Latest Feature Revealed

Posted by Paul | August 31, 2014 at 12:26 AM ET

We teased you with this about a week ago, so here is the official reveal! Welcome to Jedi Temple Archives' latest feature: FlashBack Reviews! This new feature launches tomorrow, but get a sneak peek at what you can expect on September 1st by simply clicking through to read the details!

Q: What are FlashBack Reviews?
A: FlashBack Reviews are Jedi Temple Archives' earliest Research Droids Reviews that have been revisited and bettered to make them as modern and relevant as possible for Star Wars collectors. It offers us the opportunity to revisit these "old" reviews in a new way for our current audience which includes longtime and new readers. Frequently, many new readers have submitted review requests for certain products that we had already reviewed. We want to bring to our readers' consciousness again the wonderful products already in archived in our database. As organized as we believe our RDR Index is, it seems that many things still get overlooked. Longtime readers will be treated to all-new details as well, most notably new, improved and upgraded photography. More on that in a moment or two.

Q: Why are we doing this?
A: We have an intense database of nearly 2000 reviews now and by Thanksgiving 2014 we will unbelievably surpass the 2000 mark. Sadly, some of our photography and some of our formatting has become aged and it's time for things to be refreshed. Our desire to enhance our images and content is all for you, so that you can rely on Jedi Temple Archives for the most complete content possible. Both our techniques and equipment have improved. We have revisited the galleries by taking all new enhanced photography. Additionally, many of these reviews were published before we had the Disqus comments module. We hope you will, for the first time, add your thoughts in our comments about these great collectibles. Also, many reviews didn't have voting polls. Feel free to vote on these products too if you never did! We feel that some of the best Star Wars collectibles ever made are worth talking about right now. Just think: Clone Commander Stone, Gamorrean Guard, Hrchek Kal Fas, Rum Sleg, Shaak Ti, Luke Skywalker (Bespin Fatigues), PROXY and a plethora more of other Star Wars action figures and collectibles can be the center of discussion once again!

Q: What's new?
A: We have improved our image photography process. We have increased the number of images, even doubling the amount of photos in many, and posed the figures/collectibles in ways that show as much of their "abilities" as possible. We are also adding more comparison pictures and diorama type images as well. With Hasbro producing less and less with each successive year, we feel now is a better time than ever to revisit the pinnacle timeframe of collecting, which for Hasbro peaked in between 2008 and 2012. We will be hanging in that period of time for a while. The same will be true for other licensees as well. We have provided you with instantly-loading, well lit, crisp and large (we moved up from 925 pixels to 1200 pixels) images that aren't over-sharpened. We believe they will provide you with, as best as we can provide to you, the most accurate representations of these collectibles of anything we have done in the past. Aside from all-new galleries, we have also updated many other parts of the reviews: from the gallery pages to the reference data images to provide you with the premier review experience. We have also reviewed Collector Notes extensively and updated articulation, details and other important facts about the figures to bring you one of the most definitive and complete analysis of a figure you can find on the web today. Please be sure to spend some extra time in these sections in the reviews.

Q: How will this proceed?
A: Fall 2009 brought us one of the greatest collections of all time: the red phase of the Legacy Collection. And let's not forget about the red phase of The Clone Wars line. We will be starting here. This means that we will be presenting our oldest reviews first, but please note they've been significantly revised, one by one starting with our September 1, 2009 review and then somewhat/relatively chronologically forward. Our reviews will also remain anachronism free, a very important detail in our opinion that we will not compromise. It is certain to be a fun time and it should certainly jog some great memories. You will find a strong focus on the characters from these lines to start off with, but by the time summer 2015 comes around, we will be revisiting The Vintage Collection. We cannot wait and we bet you can't wait either. Great things will be seen once again, for the first time, in the new FlashBack Reviews feature. It will be a daily routine as well.

Q: Does this new feature affect daily Research Droids Reviews?
A: No.Because we're still crazy and hopelessly devoted to our readers, we will be keeping both stints up until someone at JTA dies from exhaustion. We'll see how long we can go....
