Star Wars: Force For Change Grand Prize Winner Announced

Posted by Chuck | August 11, 2014 at 08:49 PM ET

Star Wars: Force For Change announced their grand prize winner... D.C. Barns from Denver, Colorado! Click through for the full announcement! For all of you other fans who had high hopes... it was millions of voices crying out in terror and suddenly silenced.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you, the generous Founding Members of Star Wars: Force for Change. Together, contributors from 125 countries around the world have united to raise over $4.26 million to benefit UNICEF Innovation Labs and programs! Along with an additional $1 million of support from The Walt Disney Company, this campaign has raised enough for UNICEF Innovation Labs to build the equivalent of 7 to 8 new Innovation labs, ensuring the development of projects like MobiStation, a portable kit that gives children access to quality learning anywhere and Rapid FTR, a mobile phone app that helps reunite family members during natural disasters. These are just a couple examples from this tremendous achievement, but the true impact goes beyond dollars and cents. So for establishing an entirely new branch of the UNICEF community and igniting a newfound awareness that holds immeasurable potential, we THANK YOU!

And now, without further adieu, we're excited to announce that the winner of our very first Star Wars: Force for Change campaign is ... D.C. Barns from Denver, Colorado!

During a donor video chat, D.C. shared that he first saw Star Wars when it opened in theaters in 1977, when he was only five, adding, "I loved it! ... I just couldn't get it out of my head of 35 years." D.C. was then asked to share his favorite Star Wars moment. As he began to reply, he was suddenly surprised in his Denver office by members of Star Wars: Force for Change team. Check out his reaction in this video.

Again, what you have done together to benefit the remarkable work of UNICEF Innovation Labs is nothing short of amazing!
