A New Hope For "A New Hope" Leia?

Posted by Paul | October 10, 2013 at 11:11 AM ET

A long-awaited version of our favorite princess might be is in the works. Click through to find out what information we elicited from Hasbro at the Preview Party last night...

One of the most frequently asked questions left by our readers was “When is Hasbro updating the Episode IV Princess Leia Organa figure?” A frequently attempted action figure throughout the various lines, the closest we came to getting a near definitive take on her was in 2004’s VOTC line. Sadly, the figure has aged. The likeness is a bit cartoony now and the articulation doesn’t come close to meeting our demanding standards. (That doesn’t mean we’re not fond of it, but it’s time for an update.)

So when I pressed Hasbro for an idea of when this stunning version of her would be attacked next, he couldn’t give me an idea. I asked one year? Two years? Never? He said they would love to get her out again soon, they just don’t know when. I explained to him that this answer wouldn’t be acceptable to my readers so I asked this question.

“Without giving specifics, can you confirm or deny if an all-new Princess Leia figure would be coming in The Black Series next year?” Hasbro confirmed that this would indeed happen.

So, while I can’t confirm whether it’s an Episode IV update of her or not, logic does err on the side that it’s likely a new white-outfitted version of her is next on the list. This outfit is overdue and they’ve recently released most other versions as well. While it’s completely possible that it could be a new Leia Boussh, or Leia Ceremonial, the wry smiles and nervousness I sensed from prodding him about an Episode IV version gave me a new hope indeed. Pun intended. Or should I say "bun" intended? This figure is a huge deal for them, so I am sure they want to keep it under wraps for as long as they can.

UPDATE: If we are talking about 6-inch, we will say 6-inch. Just assume that when we say The Black Series it means the 3.75" basic figure line. Thanks.
