Research Droids Reviews: December 19, 2012 – January 1, 2013

Gamorrean Guard - Mini Busts
What is the intrigue with the green pig guards from Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi. He is always a favorite with Star Wars fans wand collectors and it appears that it’s impossible to tire of him every time a new collectible of him gets announced and released.... (read the full review)

Biker Scout - Mini Busts
There are some characters in the Star Wars universe that Gentle Giant Ltd. really has no problem nailing the likenesses to, especially armored Imperials. The likeness is so impressive that it's impressive on unprecedented levels. This absolutely directly applies to the Biker Scout Mini Bust which is easily the greatest release of 2004.... (read the full review)

Salacious Crumb - Mini Busts
There’s really no better explanation for Salacious Crumb than the court jester of the Star Wars universe. The annoyingly pervasive Kowakian monkey-lizard who doubled as Jabba’s pet and purveyor of entertainment grasped onto the attention of Star Wars fans the moment they saw him in Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi.... (read the full review)

Darth Vader (Anakin Reveal) - Mini Busts
It goes without saying that the Mini Bust line has released characters representative across the entire Star Wars universe with regularity and relatively even ratios. With many of the “onscreen” characters however, Gentle Giant Ltd. has taken some artistic license here and there to make their products truly unique to their own brand.... (read the full review)

General Grievous - Mini Busts
The General Grievous Mini Bust changed the way Gentle Giant Ltd. designed Mini Busts. Due the very nature of General Grievous’s shape, new ways of bringing his equally organic and synthetic body parts into their polystone format. We think they got it right.... (read the full review)

AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) - TVC - Vehicles (Exclusive)
It’s so easy to blame Hasbro when things don’t go our way for the Star Wars toy line. Strange character choices, straight repacks and unrequested all-new figures often squeak their way into the toy line when prominent and fan requested characters get ignored or fall on deaf ears. Take your pick.... (read the full review)

Millennium Falcon - TVC - Vehicles (Exclusive)
Collectors should hand it to Hasbro sometimes. In 2008, they brought us one of the greatest products of all time. The Legacy Collection’s Millennium Falcon was about the best gift possible. Hasbro HAD to build the Millennium Falcon from scratch because the molds of the original 1979 vehicle (and subsequent retools and repaints) became damaged that they couldn’t use the tooling any more.... (read the full review)

Rebel Armored Snowspeeder - TVC - Vehicles (Exclusive)
2010’s NY Toy Fair was full of tremendous announcements for fans of The Empire Strikes Back. Not only would the summer of 2010 bring us an all-new and larger scaled Imperial AT-AT (All Terrain Armored Transport) vehicle, we were also getting an introductory basic figure line up that focused on Episode V as well, but in “vintage styled” packaging in the newly announced The Vintage Collection.... Leia Organa (Imperial Senator: Alderaan) - Heroes Of The Rebellion - - 1:6 Scale Figures
Sideshow Collectibles has been criticized for overlooking or intentionally avoiding certain Star Wars characters for their 1:6 Scale Figures line. It seems that they lack focus in general and have no rhyme or reason really for why they’re releasing certain characters and not others. Star Wars 12” scale enthusiasts are praying for the day that Sideshow announces Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 among many overdue characters.... (read the full review)

Zuckuss - Mini Busts
Gentle Giant Ltd. has always managed to nail the likenesses of alien characters. Their human likenesses have been hit or miss for the most part, but once in a while they can really nail them down pretty well too. But when it comes to the hive of scum and villainy of the aliens, Gentle Giant Ltd. just seems to come a little closer each time they bring a new one into their Mini Bust line.... (read the full review)

Bossk - Mini Busts
Is it possible that Star Wars fans will never tire of the bounty hunters from the classic scenes in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back? That question may be rhetorical quite honestly. Perhaps we should have just asked whether Star Wars fans will ever get tired of Star Wars? It’s almost a silly question, isn’t it?.... (read the full review)

Infant Leia Organa With Bail Organa (Separation Of The Twins) - TSC - Basic (Exclusive)
Unless you’re a hardcore archivist like we are, you may have not been aware of the fact that Hasbro gave collectors a few preliminary products to tease what the new line would be after 2005’s Revenge Of The Sith line would come to an end. This new line entitled The Saga Collection actually started out in 2005 even though must refer to it as the line of 2006.... (read the full review)

Infant Luke Skywalker With Obi-Wan Kenobi (Separation Of The Twins) - TSC - Basic (Exclusive)
The Separation Of The Twins Walmart exclusives are technically the first “basic carded” packaged figures in The Saga Collection. These were the first two figures to sport the all-new line look which brought collecting to a new and fun level.... (read the full review)

501st Legion AT-RT With ARF Trooper & TX-21 Tactical Droid - SW [AOTC/ROTS 3D] - Deluxe
The first products available in the 2013 “Yoda” line look were four newly approached Class I vehicle with figure(s) sets. Note the plural form of the word “figure”. The newness here is that Hasbro has added another action figure which we imagine is really more of an effort to provide kids with an instant “good versus evil” play environment rather than more value for your dollar....
