Roron Corobb - TAC - Basic (30 31)

Roron Corobb takes on the duties of a Senior General during the Clone Wars. Along with his Jedi compatriots, Shaak Ti and Foul Moudama, Roron is assigned to protect Supreme Chancellor Palpatine from General Grievous. But despite his skill and bravery, Roron is killed by the cyborg general in his unrelenting push to capture Palpatine.

The first shall be last and the last shall be first! This statement couldn’t be any truer for Roron Corobb who lost out along with Foul Moudama to Voolvif Monn in the Cartoon Network’s informal poll voting for which Chalmun’s Cantina alien fans would like to see immortalized in Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars. But ultimately Corobb and Moudama became the true winners with a much more developed character storyline than Voolvif Monn as they appeared in Volume 2 much more prominently. Voolvif Monn's appearance got overshadowed by these runner-ups since they were promoted to main characters and not just as cameos like Monn was. This of course made Roron Corobb a relatively fan favorite Jedi Knight rather quickly to fans and he not only saw release as an action figure but also as an animated maquette from Gentle Giant Ltd.. He has left quite a mark on the psyche of collectors and just looking at him should make it clear why. Roron Corob is an Ithorian and is the same species as Momaw Nadon (Hammerhead). A peaceful species, they are defenders of good and it makes total sense why Roron Corobb fought valiantly against the Separatists in Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars. Hasbro did an extremely fine job on him as an action figure and as unbalanced lovers of the original Clone Wars series we probably wouldn’t be able to sleep at nights knowing that this figure was not yet made. Needless to say, we are well-rested people.

You won’t find all of the über-articulation of many other figures on him, but he is well-designed and authentic to what a realistic version of him would look like based on his animated appearance. One of the most remarkable things about action figures designed from the Clone Wars is that Hasbro is essentially recreated the wheel but in a different light. We think they succeeded greatly here. Roron Corobb also has the distinction of having a name that is an (imperfect) anagram. Since the Hammerhead creature was designed by Ron Cobb, he gets his due credit in the form of having the Ithorian Jedi named after him. We think this is just awesome. He’s highly-articulated with 18 points, but he unfortunately has swivel elbows which make posing his arms a little bit annoying. You can still attain some pretty cool poses with his arms, but we just have never been fans of swivel arm joints. Thankfully the elbows are not cut at dramatic angles that would otherwise greatly affect posing him. He does however have awesome articulation in the legs including ball-jointed knees and ankles as well as the standard swivel hip joints. Roron Corobb has two large feet that cover quite a bit of surface area and as you can imagine support him as if they were an action figure stand themselves complete with detail at the bottom of them. The shirt falls below the waist minimally and the skirt created from it really doesn’t inhibit his movement that much at all. Besides, it is constructed from a very pliable plastic that moves as needed when positioning his legs.

But perhaps the crowning joy of this figure is the marvelous head sculpt. Hasbro has recruited one amazing sculptor to make this figure and the results are simply stunning. The figure has a righteously angry look in the eyes and his two mouths are quivering as if he is about to Force bellow from his four throats. Since these characters have large heads, there would naturally be a concern of how well in scale Hasbro could design them. Well there are certainly no worries here as it couldn’t have been made more accurately. The details on the costume are remarkably painted and his two-toned Jedi outfit looks as if it was ripped right from the animated series. The perfection of this sculpt and most of the articulation are then superseded by the brilliant paint job Hasbro gave him. There is a subtle dark wash that sticks in the many crevices on the figure’s face and extremities and his eyes couldn’t have been painted on better. Not only do you see the pupils each with a light reflection dot in the center of them, the rest of his eye is painted in the lightest baby blue color completing the portrait beautifully. This action figure is certainly one of the stars in our favorite collection yet, the 30 (77-07) line and it is just splendid that we got such a wonderful version of this character as a basic action figure. Roron Corobb should be immediately likeable to most Star Wars fans and if he isn’t, well, then that’s your loss.
