Anakin disguises himself as a Naboo pilot to escort Padmé on a mission. He conceals his identity while secretly guarding the senator, who takes on the dangerous assignment of spying on a colleague. Sleek and elegant, the Naboo star skiff is covered in gleaming chromium and armed with blaster cannons to discourage threatening encounters.
Collectors were getting anxious hoping that Hasbro would consider releasing the Naboo Star Skiff since 2005 (first seen in Episode III) when it made another appearance in the second season of The Clone Wars. Maybe we should be careful what we wish for because Hasbro gave it to us, but it’s inaccurate and severely much too small. Maybe Habsro can now say that they delivered it to us, but it’s not the proper scale or anywhere near the degree of satisfaction we had hoped. Hasbro shrunk it down tremendously to fit into the Deluxe line scale and while it is pretty cool to get a Naboo pilot version of Anakin Skywalker, it’s definitely not as exciting to get a micro version of the beautiful Naboo Star Skiff. Apparently Hasbro took the term “skiff” literally here. While the figure probably wouldn’t have done much good in the mid-size assortment either (it still would have been too small) it is certainly a vehicle that is aggressive and popular enough to include in the Deluxe Vehicle assortment (you know, the same scale as the 2009 TCW Y-wing Bomber vehicle). So the reason to consider purchasing this set would be for the Anakin Skywalker action figure and not really the vehicle that comes with him. Seen in the episode entitled “Senate Spy” the Naboo Star Skiff With Anakin Skywalker Deluxe figure and vehicle set will likely leave you feeling 50% satisfied and 50% wanting more.
Anakin Skywalker (in a Naboo pilot’s outfit) is a really cool action figure. Unique to this Deluxe set (for now) it’s the only way you can get him into your collections. The figure is well-proportioned and nicely painted. And Hasbro was very faithful to both the animated series as well as the look of the outfits seen in Episode II. His helmet is removable and he comes with his blue lightsaber. You may have some difficulty futzing with getting that helmet over his head, but it does eventually snap on there. He is limited to only ten points of articulation, but this doesn’t inhibit how much you’ll like him. He really doesn’t need ankle or knee joints (even though they would be nice to have) because he essentially lies in the canopy of the microscopic Naboo Star Skiff. So there isn’t a need for his to wrap his legs around something or pose in an action stance. This is strictly a piloting figure and he really serves no other purpose as far as the toy aspect of him is concerned. For a figure designed to be hidden in the cockpit of a ship, Hasbro certainly included a lot of details on the figure that we expected them to maybe overlook. But the scar on his head, the alternating lattice pattern on his high boots and the texture and shadowing on his vest is just splendid and makes him an awesome addition to the line.
