Crude and slovenly, Dengar was nonetheless an effective bounty hunter. While some hunters prided themselves on finesse and style, Dengar preferred firepower and destruction.

Usually Zuckuss is the last bounty hunter released in any Hasbro collection of Star Wars action figures, but for The Black Series [Phase III] 6” line, Dengar is the last. A Corellian bounty hunter with a major bone to pick with Han Solo, Dengar was eager to assist Darth Vader in his mission to capture the Millennium Falcon and its crew. Barely seen in The Empire Strikes Back, Dengar was part of a motley crew of scum and villainy that decorated the perimeter of the Executor’s bridge right after the Battle of Hoth. Hasbro approached Dengar by how he looks in The Empire Strikes Back. But it’s important to note that if you remove his backpack, you can easily recreate the bounty hunter’s appearance in Jabba’s palace during Return Of The Jedi. With the inclusion of “photorealistic” technology, Dengar is the first (and only) bounty hunter to date that received this updated deco process. From the mummified-inspired wraps on his head to the deep wounded scars on his face, Dengar is another beautiful release in Hasbro’s 6” action figure line, and collectors of the line have good reason to be happy when their action figures look this remarkable.

Dengar is a tad shorter and much stockier than most other characters in The Black Series 6” line. But Hasbro developed him faithfully to the onscreen character. The differences in his body type and height are all inherent to the character, and Hasbro masterfully recreated all of his traits beautifully. We’re especially impressed with Dengar’s head sculpt. Hasbro tooled a portrait that mimics the features of the actor perfectly. And all of Dengar’s scars are realistically applied in a precise but stunning way. Dengar wears head wraps that are tacked at the bottom to keep them in place. And once again Hasbro recreated this headgear exactly as it is seen in The Empire Strikes Back. The color and shape of Dengar’s armor is incredible. We weren’t sure how well this would translate into the 6” line, but we couldn’t be more impressed with the final figure. What’s impressive here is that although Dengar’s armor is large and bulky, the figure’s articulation works extremely well and the figure easily poses in a variety of ways. He does have some top-heaviness issues, but nothing too drastic that can’t be remedies with some careful balancing. The “rocker” ankles are a bit think to support the figure’s weight is all.

Dengar comes with three separate accessories. It appears that Hasbro followed suit with what they did for 2010’s TVC Dengar (VC01) figure. Dengar comes with a blaster pistol, a blaster rifle and a removable backpack. Each are exquisitely sculpted with a ton of detail (especially the backpack) and interact with the figure very, very nicely. Dengar comes with a holster for the smaller blaster pistol. You can keep it housed in the holster when not in use, but his hands can accommodate it well too. The larger blaster rifle, which is also utilized by 4-LOM (67), also interacts with Dengar wonderfully as well. We’re very impressed with the sculpting of the backpack. It’s a large and bulky accessory, loaded with all of the detail see on the movie prop. Hasbro tooled two straps that wrap around Dengar’s body to created an effect that it’s attached via these straps. Interestingly, the free-floating straps line up perfectly with the painted-on straps which are on the figure. Hasbro did a fantastic job on Dengar. And with the re-release of Bossk and IG-88 coming soon in The Black Series Archive line, more collectors will have the opportunity to collect all of the bounty hunters without any difficulty.
