An ambitious Imperial officer, Piett rose through the ranks to captain and was assigned to the Super Star Destroyer Executor, Darth Vader's flagship. When Vader strangled Admiral Ozzel, Piett was granted a battlefield promotion to admiral – and given a grisly warning of the penalty for failure.

Boy! When Hasbro tools a base sculpt that can be utilized for a cast of other characters, they sure bang them out quickly! When Hasbro released The Black Series [Phase III] Grand Moff Tarkin (63) figure, collectors of the line knew that more members of the Galactic Empire were forthcoming. And in one year they’ve amortized his tooling two additional times. Both General Veers and Admiral Piett are now part of the line and use most of the tooling given to Grand Moff Tarkin. With some torso changes and all-new portraits added, Hasbro makes the old new again thanks to clever manipulation of existing parts. Admiral Piett, an online exclusive, turned out nicely, but it’s a bit of a boring figure as he doesn’t come with too many interesting accessories. Admiral Piett has a great head sculpt, accented with “photorealistic” technology. Hasbro carefully applied attention to the features in his face. The “photorealistic” paint operations look good on him for the most part. But we’re inclined to point out that something is ever so slightly off about it. At some angles, it doesn’t look perfect, while other angles look like a dead ringer for the actor. It’s possible that our sample didn’t receive a perfect application of deco.

Admiral Piett, despite his faults, looks a lot like the onscreen actor. Hasbro nailed the shape of his head, and the features in his face are captured very, very well. He comes with a removable cap and blaster pistol. The cap fits very tightly on the figure’s head. He looks good with or without it on his head. He also comes with a blaster pistol and that accessory fits well in the figure’s right hand. Other than that, Admiral Piett is a very straightforward action figure. He doesn’t being too much else to the table to set him apart or make him unique to the other members of the Imperial Navy. But in all honesty, that’s expected with characters like this. The figure has a nice articulation system. He comes with 28 points of articulation, but if you’re familiar with Grand Moff Tarkin (63), you shouldn’t expect anything new with Admiral Piett. We have noticed that the placement of Admiral Piett’s legs is a bit different than Grand Moff Tarkin’s legs. But phenomena like this is always present as tooling breaks down over time. Still, the tooling shouldn’t be altered this much where it feels like Admiral Piett has all-new legs. (He doesn’t have revised legs, but you’ll notice the difference right away.)

We’re happy to see Hasbro take existing sculpts to bring us all-new figures. It may feel redundant, but this is what made the Hasbro Star Wars line so impactful for 3.75” collectors during the line’s peak. We could always expect a new take on an existing sculpt to give us new characters, and it was one of the many highlights collecting Star Wars action figures. Things are quite different today, and it appears the 6” collecting audience doesn’t possess the same attention span as 3.75” collectors. Hopefully, great figures like Admiral Piett will change people’s minds for the better. Is it just us or is Hasbro banging out a ton of characters from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back? We love to see the attention Episode V is getting in the 6” line, and background and more obscure characters like Admiral Piett are welcomed additions to the line. An online exclusive, collectors will have ample opportunity to secure Admiral Piett for their collections. All in all, Admiral Piett is an anticipated and solid addition to The Black Series [Phase III] lineup. Hasbro should continue the trend of adding Original Trilogy characters into the lineup because those are the strongest sellers.
