S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure "Art" under the theme "Pursuing Character Expression through Humanoid Action."

Like any Star Wars trilogy, the Sequel Trilogy is going to see an overlap of main characters from film to film. This is great for Star Wars licensees because they can reissue or retool existing sculpts to get these characters back out again. The high-end collectible companies tend to go “all out” when it comes to updating these characters, while companies like Hasbro tend just to do straight repacks instead. For Captain Phasma, her uniform changed very little from The Force Awakens to The Last Jedi, but the differences were noticeable enough for S.H. Figuarts to retool some new parts. They utilized 2015’s SHD Captain Phasma figure, tooled all-new lower legs and a new upper right leg. S.H. Figuarts have implemented a “plug” functionality with the weapons, so they fit tightly against the figure’s armor. To reserve aesthetics, they also included a second weapon without plugs for hand holding poses. This is a great approach when it comes to accessories. We applaud them for providing extra plastic while it technically wasn’t necessary. Additionally, Captain Phasma (The Last Jedi) comes with all of her Episode VIII accessories along with a nice selection of extra hand attachments. Most importantly, S.H. FIguarts figured out a way to make her look extra silvery and shiny this time around. While not vac-metalized, Captain Phasma (The Last Jedi) is the next best thing. You’re going to be happy with the results.

It’s pretty fair to say that with each successive S.H. Figuarts action figure we review, the more we fall in love with this 6” format. A Japanese company like Bandai SHOULD be making these higher-end 6” action figures. And Hasbro should stick with what they know best and make the best: 3.75” action figures. We digress. The level of detail, authenticity, articulation and overall quality in the S.H. Figuarts completely overshadows anything Hasbro can make in The Black Series 6” line. And as harsh as that may seem, it’s not a dig at what Hasbro makes. They are making toys for kids now. Yes, The Black Series 6” line is certainly catered to a pickier audience, but Hasbro has been all over the map with what they’ve produced thus far for the line. Whether intentional or reactionary, the level in Hasbro’s quality has increased dramatically, and we give our stamp of approval on their most recent figures, but as great as they are, we still don’t think they can compete with a line as brilliant as S.H. Figuarts. Captain Phasma (The Last Jedi) is a testament to this fact. Captain Phasma (the Last Jedi) can move ANY which way you desire her to move. The complex joints structures are simply amazing what they can accomplish. Whether positioned in a wide stance, or in a completely action-oriented pose, Captain Phasma (The Last Jedi) is sheer brilliance when it comes to what a 6” action figure can and should be able to do.

One of her best features is the sculpt of the helmet. It has been done so accurately to the prop in the film that we’re stunned by how incredible it looks. Her stature is tall and confident. With just shy of 50 total points of articulation, you’re going to be able to cull a great deal of personality out of this action figure. Captain Phasma (The Last Jedi) comes with a healthy dose of accessories as well. In addition to the two hands she comes with, she also comes with two additional pairs of hands that have been designed to interact with the other included accessories much better (like gun holding and grasping alternate attachments for example). Her gun is perfectly sized and looks great with her larger frame (and silver this time around). We love her molded cape. It has a drape that is aesthetically pleasing. What’s great about this accessory is that Captain Phasma (The Last Jedi) looks amazing in action poses while wearing the cape. They did a fantastic job with the interaction of accessory and figure here. She also comes with two blaster pistols (one with plugs to attach to her right thigh armor) as well as a collapsed staff, a collapsed staff with a plug (for attaching to her belt) and a full extended staff. This dangerous-looking and sharp accessory is a highlight of the figure. This is a step up from The Force Awakens version. You should check it out. S.H. Figuarts shows impressive progressive improvements with every one of their releases.
