All different types of Astromech droids populate the Star Wars galaxy. Each droid is different and has their own unique personality and colors. This Astromech has been programmed to scavenge Dathomir and serve Darth Maul. Join R3-BOO17 on his adventure throughout the galaxy.

May the Force be with you.... and your Droids!

One collection of action figures that are generally adored by Star Wars fans is Disney Parks’ Droid Factory line. Yes, the line isn’t completely perfect. Collectors are still angered at the removal of the foot wires, and sometimes the paint operations aren’t perfect. But overall Disney has been able to produce a line of figures that are clever, thoughtful and appreciated by droid fans all over the world. Recently, in the last couple of years, Disney has been releasing a series of holiday-themed astromech droids. Sure, the Christmas droids make the most sense, but they’ve also added Halloween inspired droids to the mix also. 2016’s R2-BOO was an immediate hit. This black droid was decorated in orange, green and purple and perfectly captured the coloring, spirit, and design of Halloween. Even the droid’s name is cute. Knowing that they couldn’t use orange and black year after year, this time Disney thought outside of the box and released what may be one of the coolest action figures of all time: R3-BOO17.

R3-BOO17 is cast in a glow-in-the-dark translucent green plastic. It’s one of the most amazing things we have seen added to the Star Wars toy line: Hasbro or Disney. Based on the R3-series Astromech Droid sculpt, Hasbro has made a truly unique figure here, and it is sure to be a hit with Star Wars collectors everywhere. Think about it how often do we get figures that glow in the dark? Next to never? It’s a nice change of pace to get action figures like this, and it’s especially nostalgic for older collectors who grew up when this was a technological advancement in the 80s. R3-BOO17 brings forth the spirit of Halloween beautifully into the Star Wars line, and it is the perfect complement to the R2-BOO figure released in 2016. You can see through this figure because of its translucent properties, but Disney Parks have also added different colors to enhance the action figure and give it much needed depth and distinction. Having a solid translucent green droid without any different coloring for its dome or utility arms would look bland and dull.

R3-BOO17 has a ridiculous name just like its predecessor, but there is no way we can deny it has an awesome look. While you don’t associate sentimentality and glad tidings with Halloween, R3-BOO17 has unique charm that perhaps creates just as much joy for the recipient as a more holiday-themed droid like the ones made for Christmastime. While its sculpt is nothing out of the ordinary because it utilizes the standard Disney R3-series Droid Factory mold, the way this figure was approached sets it apart from the others. We’re a little surprised that Disney didn’t include a “hat” for this droid, but it looks awesome without it. Typically, we don’t display any of our astromech droids with those silly hats anyway. It’s just a personal thing, and you may certainly feel differently about that. We hope that Disney keeps pumping out these cool Droid Factory astromech droids. We’re aware that they’re not everyone’s bag, but Disney is pumping out more of these units than Hasbro ever has or will. Be sure to grab R3-BOO17. It’s one of Disney Parks’ coolest droids.
