Deeply spiritual, Chirrut Ímwe believes all living things are connected through the Force. His sightless eyes do not prevent him from being a highly skilled warrior. Though he lacks Force abilities, this warrior monk has rigorously honed his body through intense physical and mental discipline.

The Rogue One line is bustling with a diverse array of characters, most of whom we haven’t seen until this film (there are exceptions of course). Rogue One takes place right up to the opening crawl of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope supposedly, and we’ll learn just how the Rebel Alliance came to be as well as learning how their first success against the Galactic Empire went down. This pivotal first battle is a huge part of the Star Wars timeline, and from what we can gauge already by the characters already shown, it looks as if Rogue One:A Star Wars Story has the potential to be one of the greatest Star Wars films since the Original Trilogy. Looking a whole lot like the band of stragglers from the very first Star Wars film, Rogue One introduces a group of characters that have been thrown into a box of battle and will have to work together to make their mission a roaring success. Obviously we know Jyn Erso has a lead role in the film, but it appears that other characters will be more than background fodder. It appears as if this will be the case for Chirrut Ímwe.

Chirrut Ímwe is a pretty cool character. Ironically he was called a “seer” but this character is infirmed with blindness in the film. However, supposedly he relies on a supernatural gift to see all that he needs to see. He’s part of the Rogue One team at some point in the film, and Hasbro made him a priority in the toy line. Part of the second wave of Rogue One figures, the final figure of Chirrut Ímwe actually came out better than expected. We won’t go so far as to say he is an excellently approached action figure, but he does look better than average. His costume is better than average as far as accuracy is concerned, and the same can be said of his accessories. He also includes some sort of bowcaster gauntlet that fires a projectile. Clearly this is for the kids, but it seems to work well as a plaything too. When you break him down, Chirrut Ímwe comes with a remarkable five accessories which is a nice amount for a simply-articulated action figure. We have very little to complain about here. We’re honestly very pleased that his outer robe is removable.

You probably know all too well that the basic action figure line comes with exaggerated weapons for extra play value. The same is true for this figure. It seems to work well though. If you can forget that this character is blind, then maybe the extra accessory is more believable for you. There is one detail on Chirrut Ímwe that bugs us a bit. His right hand (from the forearm down) is a separately sculpted piece. But it is glued in place for this release. It would have been wondrous if Hasbro sculpted it in a way that it has a swivel point of articulation that could actually move. This would have aided in the figure having more versatility (especially when it comes to holding weapons) so we’re disappointed by this. To go the extra mile and tool a separate part, only to glue it in place feels futile to us. We’re definitely disappointed by this. Still, the figure has relatively excellent paint operations (not on the head sculpt so much) which should sort of forgive where this figure falls a bit short. He seems to be a cool character in our books, so a must-have the action figure is.
