Moroff: Moroff seeks out combat zones to sell his brawn and firepower to anyone who might need it. The mighty Gigoran mercenary figures there's money to be made for a towering heavy gunner.

Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader: Specialist stormtroopers stationed at the top-secret Imperial military headquarters on Scarif, Shoretroopers patrol the beaches and bunkers of the planetary facility.

Now here is a 5POA two-pack we can get behind. It’s been a long, arduous and grueling road for 3.75” super-articulated collectors. Hasbro canceled it as a mainline product for the launch of The Force Awakens where it became an annoying Walmart exclusive. All that fans of this scale have to pick through at mainstream retail are simply articulated action figures referred to as 5POA by the collecting community. The beginnings of 5POA were dreadful. The sculpts may have been alright, but it was impossible to tell because the paint jobs were some of the worst things we have ever seen in the Star Wars action figure line. Maybe it’s not wise to dwell in the past, but it’s important to note that this format’s beginnings were really, really rough. Now that the line is all prepped for Rogue One, we can say that Hasbro has come very far in this style of action figure. The action figures are still simply articulated with an average of only five points of articulation, but the sculpts have gotten significantly better and the paint operations are have risen up to a level of quality that even impresses the pickiest adult Star Wars collector. The Moroff/Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader is part of the Rogue One Two-Packs line, a sub-line that began in The Force Awakens collection, and it truly is a set that most of us are probably going to want to get.

Both figures are excellent, but we’re confident that Moroff will become the star of the set for most collectors. Think of him as a Mini Me version of a wampa, with a whole bunch more personality and character. He is still chunky and larger than the average 3.75” action figure, but on a slightly reduced scale compared to a wampa. Moroff is excellently sculpted. He comes with five points of articulation and has even better paint operations. His pose is rather static (which is great) and his wide feet allow for a flawless center of gravity which is important since he comes with a huge accessory. He comes with a long blaster rifle, but we found the included harnessed double blaster pack a whole lot more interesting. Coming in the package in six separate pieces, Moroff’s harnessed weaponry is a truly unique and well designed accessory for a format that is meant to be budget. You get a great deal of plastic here for the MSRP. And if you add to that the excellent sculpt and beautiful paint jobs, we are really getting quality items for a great price here. Moroff is chunky, solid and looks fantastic. Sure, we would love to see a super-articulated version in the 3.75” range, but this may be all we need for the time being.

We’re also quite fond of the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader. Now, we’d be lying if we said that a “trooper” figure doesn’t need super-articulation. Because this one definitely needs that treatment. But to be balanced, the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader visually is beautiful. We’re telling you, Hasbro must have picked up on all of the criticism regarding the terrible paint operations that were given to their action figures. When you look at the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader you can’t help but be impressed. There are MULTIPLE colors, stripes, lines, insignias and other small details that have been replicated here with such precision and care. We can’t even complain about sloppy paint operations anymore (well, on this release at least). With a ball-socket head and swivel shoulders and hips there isn’t much you can do with this figure. This of course is a shame. But dang if the Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader doesn’t look fantastic despite this. We truly believe that Hasbro has heard the complaints and cries about quality and value. They’ve raised the bar significantly in our eyes. Sure, things are nowhere where they need to be, but this is no doubt a step in the right direction. The Moroff/Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader is a highlight in the Two-Packs line, and it’s highly recommended by us.
