In Star Wars: Attack Of The Clones, Sun Fac sentences Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala to be executed in the Geonosian arena after convincing them of espionage. The ruthless Sun Fac is chief lieutenant to Archduke Poggle the Lesser, and runs the Geonosian Droid Factories with a cold and brutal efficiency.
The Legacy Collection Droid Factory line was originally planned to focus on characters from Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones before it got cancelled. You see, Lucasfilm Ltd. had planned to re-release all of the Star Wars films in theaters, but for the first time in 3D. After a not-so-successful run with Episode I, plans were shelved, but much to the chagrin of licensees. Hasbro in particular had to reevaluate their plan for the basic figure lines. The Star Wars [Yoda/Attack Of The Clones] line look is a perfect example. It was all but shelved. It ran for half of 2013 but most of the products planned for the line got axed in America. And the Legacy Collection Droid Factory line was intended to be the complementary collector-focused line of 2013. Obviously that never happened. The Black Series line was created and served to come to the rescue to get out the previously planned figures out to collectors. Hasbro had to do a great amount of switching things around, and postponing a few of the figures. There are still some figures that have not found a spot to be released. We hope that all changes very soon.
Anyway, Hasbro reserved some of the more “army building” characters for a special Amazon.com exclusive six-figure multipack. They also managed to squeeze in a seventh Build A Droid figure, TC-70 also into the mix to make the purchase even more attractive. Cleverly they resurrected the cancelled Legacy Collection packaging and have placed the figures on basic card backs as they know how collectors love their carded basic figures. One character, Sun Fac, is part of this multipack and is a nice upgrade to the character we last received seven years ago. Hasbro released the very first Sun Fac action figure as 2006’s The Saga Collection Sun Fac (SAGA 016) figure. It is still a tremendous effort of an action figure by todays standards, but the new 2013 flavor is more attractive as it has a lot more articulation and firmly ranks as definitive. It’s a slightly surprising update for any basic figure line. As a character that can hardly be seen in Episode II, we’re shocked that it has commanded a redo, especially when the first version from 2006 turned out so well and when so many other characters need to have a first go round. Even so, we’re glad to have the updated figure now. We're all for upgrades even for figures that we're not expecting to see updated so soon.
Status: Sun Fac is a repaint of the Geonosian Warrior from 2009's LC Kit Fisto/Geonosian Warrior (2 of 6) Geonosis Arena Showdown set.
