There are some Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figures that will make you want to jump in on this format more than others. A good example of this would be the Power Droid. Maybe its perhaps Hasbro has avoided the Lars’ homestead version like the plague in the modern action figure line. While the Kenner action figure’s packaging clearly shows an image of the Power Droid that was seen inside the Jawa sandcrawler, the actual action figure was based on a completely different character. (But we know how often that happens, right?) So while Hasbro is reluctant to reproduce the Power Droid that is owned by Owen and "Beru Lars, it’s nice to see Gentle Giant Ltd. step up to the plate and produce this action figure in the Jumbo line with precision and excellence, as well as the same “special features” it had when it was originally released in smaller scale in 1979. This one grabbed our attention right away and it’s quickly become one of our favorites. Be careful, this line becomes more and more addicting with time.

The Jumbo Vintage Kenner Power Droid figure just looks amazing. While the plastic has an overall shinier sheen than the 3.75” Kenner figure, the glossiness doesn’t detract from the piece in the least, The same two decals (the “face” and the “waistband”) have been created and applied in the same exact way. The figure’s simple yet colorful paint job has also been replicated with care and these accented details are done very cleanly. Gentle Giant Ltd. is adamant about including as much authenticity to the original figure as possible, so they actually worked in the same mechanics and gave the Jumbo version really clicking swivel legs. The sounds remind you of a time long ago and a childhood that is now far, far away, but it’s powerfully nostalgic. They’ve also installed the “rubber” antenna that is pliable just like the 1979 action figure! Awesome! These are the types of things that Star Wars collectors thrive on and it’s part of what makes us such passionate people. Power Droid does a great job of pulling all of these things together. And let’s not forget about the super-sized vintage Kenner packaging. It’s too cool for words.

Power Droid was the very last Jumbo Vintage Kenner Figure that needed to be released in order for Gentle Giant Ltd. to complete all of the original Star Wars 21-backs. Consider that done. It was a clever for them to release it last because of its unique shape and how it differs from the rest. Collectors have questioned the Jumbo line ever since Boba Fett and Stormtrooper were released. Everyone wants to know what plans Gentle Giant has for the line and what will they do with it. it appears now that they are looking to reproduce every figure that was made in the original Kenner line. Obviously if you’re a collector of this line you’re probably going to run out of space very quickly. But if Gentle Giant does this right and slowly release them over time and not back to back on top of each other, it may be a very rich line that collectors can savor and enjoy. Once again, Power Droid is a very exciting release and we couldn’t be happier with they way it turned out. We are looking forward to any and all announcements to continue this very collector-focused line.
