If there is one thing that Star Wars collectors want in any collectible format it’s the core characters from the films. We identify the key characters as Star Wars so it makes complete sense why we want them first in any given collectibles line. Gentle Giant Ltd. made collectors wait a little bit for main character C-3PO as he wasn’t on the agenda for the first two years of the line. The wait was well worth it however because we feel they went above and beyond with the Mini Bust interpretation. C-3PO not only has a brilliant likeness to his appearance in the Star Wars films, the artisans at Gentle Giant paid extremely close attention to the fine details of C-3PO’s character. All of them have been effortlessly added to the Mini Bust. In fact, there are so many gears, switches, button and pins that you may prick your finger on their sharpness while attempting to display it in your collection. Be forewarned!

C-3PO is presented in a rather static pose. This works much better than say a more dramatic pose. With his arms angled at his sides and a rather erect posture, C-3PO is as basic as you could ever want in a Mini Bust. Again, the details are utterly amazing. The pin where a restraining bolt would have attached is thin and sharp. And then there are the neck pins (which look a lot like golden spark plugs) are also present making the collector imagine how they were able to gather all of these parts and assemble them to the Mini Bust without losing any parts. The photoreceptors on our sample have been added crookedly. It’s a shame because the thin lines on them should have been situated vertically. If you look at the gallery they lean to the right too much. C-3PO’s abdomen section is also wonderfully constructed and painted. The colored wirings against the black layer underneath look absolutely fantastic.

Gentle Giant Ltd. also did something special for collectors with C-3PO. They managed to gold plate the Mini Bust while keeping the cost of the pieces the same as the others in the line. This outer coating is excellent and does C-3PO justice. Let’s be honest. Is there any other way to do right by C-3PO? All of his collectible format should be dipped in gold. The worried, fussy and prissy C-3PO is a character that most Star Wars fans adore. Now you have the opportunity to collect a truly collectible (and perhaps valuable) interpretation of him at a very reasonable price. The C-3PO Mini Bust has been set with an edition size of 8000 pieces. While this number is quite large, C-3PO’s popularity may make that 8K edition size seem smaller. We’re looking forward to seeing what other core Star Wars characters Gentle Giant can bring to the Mini Bust line. But if C-3PO is any indication, there are some great things in store.
