S.H. Figuarts is a new standard figure series that incorporates the Bandai action figure "Art" under the theme "Pursuing Character Expression through Humanoid Action."

The collecting community went wild when S.H. Figuarts began adding Jedi to the line of high-end 6” figures. Early on we received an Episode I version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but most of the action with Jedi occurred in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones during the Battle of Geonosis. And now lovers of this line are hoping to see a few of these Jedi get made in the line. It’s a start, but the very first Jedi based on Episode II is Mace Windu, and the final figure is a stunning work of art. S.H. Figuarts not only captured an amazing likeness TWICE with this figure (he comes with an interchangeable scowling portrait). They’ve incorporated a “pop and lock” feature for his legs which allows him to gain extra height to be in perfect scale with the rest of the line (and other shorter Jedi Knights and Masters). Although lightly accessorized, you get everything here you need. But those looking for his outer robes will have to wait longer because soft-goods are something that S.H. Figuarts aren’t prepared to add to their figures just yet. Regardless, those looking for an incredible interpretation of Mace Windu, this is your figure. What’s nice is that this could be any Prequel Trilogy version of Mace Windu with the appropriate accessories applied to him.

Before we get into the figure, we’d like to address to things we appreciate this line. Firstly, while the plastic they use does make you worrisome that you’ll break it (it has a seemingly brittle texture without being brittle), it’s ability to “heal” itself just blows our mind. For example, when switching hand attachments, the swivel part of the ball-joint split in half. But these figures are made in a way where potential breakage will not be an issue. So they made that swivel joint attach via a snap fit method. We were able to reattach the swivel part of the hand attachment ball-joint as if it never broke off. We also love the hidden “growing” feature in the legs which gives Mace Windu his required height. Without it, he would have issues with his scale which could have been an unfortunate thing. As we have mentioned, Mace Windu does not come with too many accessories. His accessorization is light. He comes with a lightsaber hilt that has been tooled with a plug (for attachment to his belt). He also comes with a fully lit lightsaber, but that breaks down into a hilt and blade as well. (This is so you can thread the lightsaber through the hole in the “lightsaber dueling” hand attachments with relative ease. It’s nice to have so many options with the lightsaber accessory alone.

Other than the three lightsaber parts, the only other thing Mace Windu comes with are alternate body parts. He comes with two interchangeable left hands and two interchangeable right hands. One pair are open/waving hands, and the other two are lightsaber holding hands. He also comes with the obligatory “pack in” fisted hands as well. In our opinion, the best part about Mace Windu is his alternate portrait. Although we don’t quite understand why the paint operations on the alternate portrait are so vastly different than the standard one, it’s one of our most favorite expressions of Mace Windu we have ever encountered. It captures his fed-up attitude at the Battle of Geonosis. It captures his confrontation with Jango Fett. And it captures his will and grit to see the fall of the Separatist Droid Army during that fateful battle that forever changed Star Wars history. S.H. Figuarts has done a magnificent job on Mace Windu. This figure is one of the finest pieces of the entire line. Mace Windu is such a great Star Wars character, and this is made better by a great action figure to compliment the onscreen character. Mace Windu brings this to the S.H. Figuarts 6” line beautifully.
