The Disney Store is proud to introduce the Star Wars Toybox range of action figures, bringing adventures to life with characters from across The Walt Disney Company.

The Star Wars Toybox line is piquing the interest of many. Starved for a solid line of super-articulated figures that aren’t 6” scale, fans of the 3.75” range have given a second glance to this Disney Infinity inspired lineup of high-quality action figures. The figures themselves are right in between the 3.75” and 6” lines as far as scale is concerned. This in and of itself is troublesome for established collectors because starting a new line of differently scaled figures is always a bit daunting. Sure, it’s easy enough to pass on a new line of figures, but when that line tugs at the heartstrings of collectors because they’re what makes collecting fun and exciting, it’s difficult just to disregard and ignore them. This is where we are with the Star Wars Toybox line. The first wave makes sense from a marketing perspective, but for us, we feel the line began with the wrong three figures. That being said, we have high hopes for where Disney takes this line. If they keep up this quality and fair MSRP, we should be in for some incredible treats. Imagine an animated Boba Fett and Darth Vader. Heck, how would you feel about Greedo and Momaw Nadon getting added to this format? The possibilities are obviously endless, but if Disney sticks to what collectors are obsessed with, nothing but the best will endure with this fun new format.

The First Order Stormtrooper may be the least interesting figure from the first wave. He isn’t approached differently from the other figures in the wave of course, but when you’re primarily just a white and black character in armor, there isn’t too much to get excited about because we have seen this all before in different scales. That being said, the First Order Stormtrooper is done very well. He comes with an amazing 27 points of articulation including a ball-jointed head and ball-jointed hips. But the premium articulation doesn’t end there. The shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles all have this luxurious articulation as well. Many have already noted that “rocker” ankles would have made a huge difference on these figures, and we agree with those assessments too. It’s a bit difficult to have both feet flat on the ground when you’re posing the First Order Stormtrooper in any action pose, which of course is disappointing. Despite this, we’re overall happy with what Disney has been able to achieve with an armored Star Wars character. We look forward to getting a regular Original Trilogy Stormtrooper in this line as well as the different types of Clone Troopers that exist as well. Aside from some looseness in a couple of joints, we don’t have much concern for these figures because they have been made with high-quality standards otherwise.

The deco on the First Order Stormtrooper is simple, but done well. There are a few instances of sloppy paint applications here and there, but you need to look hard to find them. The white armor is a bit dull for our tastes. We would much rather prefer to see a shinier plastic used so that these figures appear brighter. Right now, the First Order Stormtrooper looks a tad dingy which isn’t screen-accurate. Perhaps it’s a cost-saving measure to use a duller plastic. We don’t know. But what we do know is that the white armor needs a little bit of help. The Star Wars Toybox figures simply accessorized, but the First Order Stormtrooper comes with a First Order blaster. We think the weapon accessory has been tooled well, but it doesn’t fit into either hand tightly enough, and it always falls out with the slightest movement of the figure. Also, the right thigh armor doesn’t have a slot to hold the weapon for alternate display. We have to say that Disney missed the boat here and it’s something that should have been in the plans when designing this figure. Aside from these small setbacks, fans of Disney Infinity and any animated stylization of Star Wars characters are going to find favor with the Star Wars Toybox line. Again, we would encourage Disney to start busting out characters from the Original Trilogy. These will sell because the original Star Wars collectors adore anything from that era. If they don’t, this line doesn’t have much hope.
