One of Kamino’s most esteemed and decorated soldiers in the Clone Wars, Captain Rex serves under Jedi General Anakin Skywalker as leader of the 501st.

Ready to lead the charge, Sideshow’s Captain Rex – Phase II Armor Sixth Scale figure comes fully equipped with his signature grey pauldron, kama and twin blasters, along with a carbine blaster and droid popper for backup. Never one to follow the crowd, the aggressive and freethinking Captain shuns the standard upgrades for his highly customized Phase II gear. His Phase II bucket boasts blue jaig eyes, a Mandalorian badge of courage, along with rangefinder and other welded modifications. Often faced with danger in the line of duty, numerous tally marks along the seasoned fighter's helmet and armor paint a vivid picture of his victories in battle.

Despite his unusual individualism as a clone, there is no doubt that Captain Rex is loyal to his fellow troopers, and always puts the mission first.

It’s comforting to know that in 2015 (and clearly not knowing how far this trend will be carried) that there are multiple licensees devoted to producing quality characters from The Clone Wars franchise. If we’re honest, Hasbro just about dropped the line like a hot potato in the last few years, but even they recently have rededicated themselves to this property and produced some great Season 6 characters in The Black Series lineup, albeit much too late after the release of season 6 on DVD and Blu-ray. Sure, Hasbro has added the obligatory action figure here and there, but it’s usually a character that they’ve released multiple times before or a character that just hasn’t been all that intriguing. They’ve done an about face and now it looks as if Sideshow Collectibles is finally getting to releasing their own interpretations of The Clone Wars characters as well and the results are nothing short of impressive. One thing is for sure. It’s great to see everyone interested in The Clone Wars again. Sideshow Collectibles has always made Captain Rex a staple across many formats. We have a beautiful Captain Rex Premium Format Figure and Captain Rex [CC-7567] (501st Legion: Torrent Company) 1:6 Scale Figure (with both collectibles based on his phase I appearance).

Although this newest version of Captain Rex is based on his phase II appearance, Sideshow decided to give him a much simpler name (especially when you compare it to the phase I release). Captain Rex pretty much brings to the line what you have seen in almost every other clones brought to the market to date, but a few new parts have been tooled and a glorious paint job has been added and these features make this Captain Rex stand a world away from his previous iteration. Captain Rex is decently accessorized too. He comes with a plethora of accessories including an all-new and uniquely shaped pauldron, droid poppers, DC-17 blasters, a DC-15 blaster a magnetic (and easily removable) jetpack, a multitude of interchangeable hands and feet and a new interchangeable portrait which puts the previous phase I Captain Rex portrait to shame. It’s not that this should appear as an all-new portrait to you because we have seen Sideshow Collectibles utilize this type of head sculpt on recent clones, but the phase I Captain Rex was produced before they had these extremely realistic portraits available at their disposal. One thing though. We challenge anyone to utilize the soft-goods body glove collar that's included to finish off his look. The head would not stay on with it. But thankfully you won't care because the likeness is spectacular. Let’s just say that the clone portrait on Captain Rex is hauntingly realistic. You’re going to be impressed for sure.

As Captain Rex transitioned/metamorphosised into his phase II look, the blue color flashes on his armor also darkened. Sideshow Collectible took stringent notice of this and applied it to the 2015 version of Captain Rex. This detail of course thrills us very much, but would you believe that they neglected to darken the blue trim on his soft-goods kama? It is extremely disappointing to see this oversight happen because this figure isn’t cheap at all. One of the most expensive clones to date, Captain Rex’s MSRP is set at a staggering $169.99. Goodness, gracious have times changed. Trust when we say that you’re going to demand perfection at that price. Needless to say this is a mistake that should not have been overlooked.... even slightly. The Armored body type works well again on Captain Rex and the articulation is very functional despite the hard and bulky armor. What does upset us a little bit is the ball-joint for the clone and helmeted portraits. It isn’t tall enough outside the perimeter of the pauldron, and if you turn either head, it pops off almost instantly, We became increasingly frustrated no matter how we positioned the pauldron. A taller ball-joint would remedy this issue immediately. Other than that, Captain Rex is gorgeous. It has a stunning paint job, looks realistic and checks off a box on another wanted The Clone Wars 1:6 Scale Figure.

Attack from the sky! Wookiee warriors use their special assault flyers in battle to attack the enemy from above. Swift and highly maneuverable, the assault flyers swoop down to launch a powerful strike on invading ground forces. Take to the skies with the Wookiees and let the battle begin!

It must be quite the task to plan a toy line based on a Star Wars film. It seems as if Hasbro needs to have a deluge of product at the ready so that there is a constant flow of merchandise at retail. Size, cost and the sheer number of toys don’t ever become obstacles because there is enough energy and excitement to support the line. Hasbro really went to town with the Revenge Of The Sith line. They prepared no less than two dozen basic action figures for opening night (when the product could officially go on sale). And then all of the other sub-lines like 12 Inch Figures, Vehicles, Attacktix, Deluxe and hoard of other toys were equally available as well. The Revenge Of The Sith line was so well scheduled that Hasbro managed to keep new products steadily flowing into stores at a very even rate. Although it wasn’t part of the initial dump of products in April of 2005, the highly sought after Wookie Flyer With Wookiee Warrior was one of the items from the “figure with vehicle” assortment that collectors wanted the most.

The Wookiee Flyer is pretty screen accurate and we’re quite impressed with its size. You really can’t fault its scale and the pre-posed and pre-sculpted Wookiee Warrior that comes with it as a pack-in figure couldn’t be finer. Yes, it isn’t a super-articulated action figure, but how can you criticize how awesome he looks flying this thing? There is another place to seat a different Wookiee on the back and he would serve as the gunner. Not really a kids’ toy exactly, the only action feature is a firing missile projectile, but you really wouldn’t know it’s there unless you looked really hard for it. We suppose the other action feature here is the flapping “flying” wings. This is articulated via trigger at the bottom of the vehicle. But Hasbro did such a fantastic job incorporating all of the functioning parts to make the Wookiee Flyer seamless. The Wookiee Flyer can stand upright on its own. Much like a modern day helicopter, the Wookiee Flyer is the Kashyyyk version of any small chopper you see in our own universe. It really is a fresh vehicle for the Star Wars line.

The Battle of Kashyyyk was one of the highlights of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith. It was sadly much too short, but it really gave Star Wars fans a clear understanding of how adept the Wookiee species is at protecting its homeland. It was evident they would stop at nothing to keep their culture safe. And they also proved to be powerful warriors as well as brilliant users of technology, despite an affinity for seemingly ancient cultured weapons like shields and staffs. The included Wookiee Warrior is brilliantly sculpted, but it has very minimalarticulation. It really serves no purpose in the toy line except as a pilot for this Wookiee Flyer. That’s alright though because the Revenge Of The Sith basic figure line has given us plenty of Wookiee basic figures with much more articulation. You'll live. You will probably want to pick up multiple Wookiee Flyer With Wookiee Warrior sets because there were multiples in Episode III. Whatever you decide, know that Hasbro really developed a nice product here. This is one you will want to keep on that wish list.
