The Gentle Giant Ltd.. animated Maquettes line is something we particularly enjoy very much. By way of exaggerated proportions and brilliant color, some of the most popular characters in the Star Wars universe are forever immortalized in a fresh new way crafted in high quality polystone and then hand painted. Gentle Giant started this line back in 2003 with the animated Clone Wars Maquettes. The next logical step was to include characters from the Original Trilogy. Interestingly, that’s exactly what Gentle Giant did and the Original Trilogy characters ended up being much more well received than the Clone Wars ones. Years into the line, Gentle Giant began making exclusive pieces in the Maquettes line and in fact, the Han Solo In Stormtrooper Disguise was held back for Action Figure Xpress as a 2010 Star Wars Celebration V Convention Exclusive. It’s actually one of the most fun Maquettes yet and they really did a stellar job on it.

Ripped right out of a scene from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, the Han Solo In Stormtrooper Disguise Maquette is completely awesome in every way. From the red grated floor to the puff of smoke pouring our of the command console that Han shot with his blaster, it’s such a clever take on a very pivotal scene in the film. Han Solo is excellently sculpted and his head is cocked back yelling the warning that the rescuers needed to get out od the Detention Block because Imperials were on the way to investigate the “friendly fire”. While the head sculpt isn’t a dead ringer for Han Solo, you know it’s him with no problem. His hair has light brown streaks throughout it and you can see his trademark scowl on his face. He looks fantastic in the Stormtrooper Disguise and it looks lean against his athletic frame. At his side is the blaster that was used to avoid the verbal banter with the Imperials with a few laser blasts.

The damaged console is amazingly decorated. There is a starburst pattern on the face of it to represent the battle-damage. It’s very colorful and has lots of buttons and switches that are all separately sculpted pieces on it. The puff of smoke is extraordinarily fragile. We had to have our piece replaced twice because this part of it was received damaged from a sealed box. Be very careful when opening it because in all honesty, Gentle Giant has it too tightly wrapped for how delicate it is. Limited to only 1000 pieces, the Han Solo In Stormtrooper Disguise Maquette made its debut at Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando, Florida in August of 2010. It held around after the show for a little bit, but it’s now a very difficult piece to secure for your collection. We highly recommend this piece. It’s entertaining, based on one of the very most popular Star Wars characters in the Original Trilogy and nicely complements the other A New Hope based Maquettes already released before this one. It’s gorgeous!
