No name strikes more fear into the heart of a galactic fugitive than that of Boba Fett. The famed bounty hunter's cool, helmeted visage is known to the denizens of countless worlds, though few have ever encountered the mysterious warrior, and fewer still would have any clue to his true identity or face.

The product of Kaminoan cloning, Boba Fett was the unaltered clone and son of Jango Fett, a Mandalorian hunter no less deadly in his day than his progeny. Trained in the techniques of his people and gifted with his father's cunning, young Boba follows in Jango's footsteps after the bounty hunter's untimely death on Geonosis. Boba Fett's trademarks are his instantly recognizable Mandalorian battle armor, his scorched jetpack and battered old Firespray interceptor Slave I, inherited from his father. All the bounty hunter's tools are custom fitted with modifications and improvements that grant him the edge in tracking and tackling his marks.

Through a military-style dedication to his art, native predatory instincts and an innovative battery of hidden surprises, Boba Fett has carved a reputation as the man who gets the job done. By the time he is recruited by Lord Vader to hunt down the Millenium Falcon during the Galactic Civil War, Fett has already become a feared and respected warrior, standing as an equal among the elite of his profession and the preferred contractor of Outer Rim crime lord, Jabba the Hutt. His successful tailing and capture of Han Solo allows him to collect double on the deal with both the Sith Lord and the Hutt, and also closes the books on a job that has occupied him for far too long.

You know something? There are some collectibles that create sensory overload. They bring too much to take in and process sometimes. It goes without saying that the works of art in Sideshow Collectibles’ Life-Size Bust line are too big for most Star Wars enthusiasts. Some don’t even go beyond the 3.75” action figure size, but there is no denying the level of detail and authenticity Sideshow can capture in these splendid Life-Size Busts. When it comes to Boba Fett, we’re hoping that Sideshow didn’t somehow make him slightly out of scale with the rest of the busts because he is huge in comparison. He towers over Bossk and General Grievous and it broader by many inches than all the others released to date. Let us be clear. The Boba Fett Life-Size Bust is breathtaking, but you probably won’t realize just how large this bust is unless you see it in person. Sideshow Collectibles went way beyond the call of duty to make Boba Fett, and he may be one of their finest moments under the Star Wars license. Boba Fett is based on his appearance in The Empires Strikes Back. What makes him ultimately unique is that he comes with electronics. if you watch the Episode V, you’ll notice that Boba Fett’s left breastplate has a blinking digital sequence. Sideshow has replicated it perfectly, and we have to say it’s one of the most impressive aspects of this bust.

The Boba Fett Life-Size Bust is loaded with color and detail. The weathering and battle-damage are unbelievable. It couldn’t look more realistic in our opinion. The wear has been done in such a way where it concentrates along edges of the armor and the way the artists painted it have made it look brilliant. On the helmet, that circular dent on the left-hand side is looking fine, and the vertical and parallel yellow lines also on the right side are perfectly placed. On the right side of the helmet, a functioning (and removal) antenna is placed and looks amazing. Its joint is quite stiff and can be set in many different positions including directly over the visor for night vision. It looks marvelous. There are tiny symbols all over the helmet and antenna areas, and you’ll need quality time to find them all and to appreciate their artistic placement. In a rare move, Sideshow has included a swivel (perhaps magnetic – it certainly feels that way) head joint, and Boba Fett’s head can be posed side to side. Where the head attaches is a stunningly sculpted ribbed turtleneck that serves as his neck. More insignias follow on Boba Fett’s left shoulder armor and right chest plate. The mythosaur skull emblem is magnificent. And even more impressive than the mythosaur skull is the Mandalorian symbol on the chest. It appears that the emblems have been silkscreened to the Life-Size Bust. They accent this collectible beautifully.

Sideshow was gracious and included a real soft-goods cape to hang from a removable pin on Boba Fett’s left shoulder. This “portion” of the cape is complete with faux oil stains, dirt marks, real nicks and scratches as well as some stress lines. It adds the last finishing touch the bust needed to be brought fully to life. It would have been great if Sideshow decided to make Boba Fett’s Wookiee scalps real fur, but they are cast in polystone. It’s the only aspect of the bust that is distracting. But with all of the positive things that is brought forward with this Life-Size Bust, it’s hardly worthy of even mentioning. Boba Fett was inevitable for the Life-Size Bust line, but it’s surprising that it ended up being the tenth bust that Sideshow produced. There certainly have been many “less popular” characters made before Boba Fett. But no matter what character gets added to this line, Sideshow Collectibles has managed to pick characters that all share something in common. And that is that all the busts have worked incredibly well in this life-size scale. We suspect the human characters would not even come close to working, so we encourage Sideshow to keep making the aliens and helmeted characters because these are looking spectacular. The Boba Fett Life-Size Bust is an absolute must-have if you can budget it. It’s more expensive than most in this line, but he’s worth it. He’s no good to you when he’s not part of your collection!
