Celebrate the legendary Star Wars saga that changed the universe forever! This collection brings to life the incredible story of good versus evil that captured our imagination and took us to a galaxy far, far away. Iconic Star Wars heroes and villains are captured with incredible detail and premium features to commemorate each epic tale in the Star Wars saga. May the Force be with you!

The fifth wave of The Vintage Collection really came out of left field. It wasn’t expected or anticipated, and Hasbro officially announced it through their Q&A session with Star Wars collector fan sites. Collectors in general determined right off the bat that this was a fancy repack and repaint wave. And that ended up being the case. Every year Hasbro needs to pad the line with cost effective figures. And they were able to do so with this mixed hodgepodge of figures. Luke Skywalker (Death Star Escape) may be the one figure in the wave that is the closest to a new figure, and some people (including us) unequivocally consider him a new figure due to the completely unique paint job, slight retooling, new parts and new accessories. It’s been a long time since we have received a “Death Star Escape” version of Luke Skywalker (unbelievably almost a decade ago) and Hasbro really delivered a great update that fits wonderfully into The Vintage Collection branding. A repaint/retool/rework of the Resurgence Of The Jedi Luke Skywalker figure, Hasbro made some significant improvements to that figure and added new parts and the final results are impressive. But how much does it deviate from that original Battle Packs figure?

It is WAY different. The biggest detail that thrills us the most is that Hasbro casted an all-new head sculpt. But more importantly, it has been cast in flesh colored plastic instead of painted in beige (or flesh color). If you recall, the Resurgence Of The Jedi Luke Skywalker figure has both a painted face and painted hair. When an action figure’s face is painted in flesh color paint, it never looks as good as the alternative. The skin, when cast in flesh colored plastic, will look smoother and shinier and will appear more lifelike than porcelain. Luke’s outfit in general is much lighter, but it is pretty much the same as the Battle Packs figure except for the stormtrooper belt affixed to his waist and the soft-goods skirt. Oh, and he comes with some very cool accessories! Luke Skywalker (Death Star Escape) comes with a neat little grappling hook. It is attached to a very long thread, and while it is way out of scale for a figure of this size, it’s hard not to like it. Luke also comes with a droid caller. It both fits into his hand and plugs into the stormtrooper belt beautifully. If you can’t get excited about this figure, we’ll never understand why because Hasbro has packed a great amount of movie-specific detail here.

Luke Skywalker (Death Star Escape) is a step up from the Resurgence Of The Jedi Luke figure. Some may be inclined to disagree with our sentiment here, but there are just too many positive enhancements that were made to allow us to feel any other way. Just the soft-goods skirt alone allows the collector to take advantage of the 14 points of articulation. What’s the point of a figure being super-articulated if you can’t enjoy all of the work that went into making the figure that way? We're sure they’ll be whiners out there who would have wanted this figure to come with a lightsaber, but we say that’s ridiculous. Hasbro is in the game of making very scene-specific figures in this day and age. So if Luke didn’t have a lightsaber in the film during the Death Star escape, the action figure based on him will certainly not come with one. Easily the strongest figure of the fifth wave of The Vintage Collection, Luke Skywalker (Death Star Escape) should be a quick addition for your collection. He nicely complements the 2009 LC Han Solo (BD30) figure that comes with the removable stormtrooper armor, and now we have good reason to create our own Death Star chasm to swing our favorite Rebel heroes to freedom. A cool addition to The Vintage Collection, allow yourself the distinct pleasure of owning this figure.
