Activated by Doctor Aphra, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) is a droid programmed for etiquette, protocol, and translations, but also specializes in interrogation and torture. With his fluency in a droid language unique to the Tarkin Initiative labs, the dark silver-plated droid reactivates an assassin astromech droid, BT-1.

Thanks to a smart kit-bashing of two previously existing The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures, we may have the definitive version of any protocol droid Hasbro decides to add into the line now. Collectors of the line were disappointed in the Walgreens exclusive C-3PO for many reasons, but a sticking point was his lack of articulation. Some within the community assessed that the figure faithfully recreates the operations and movement of the onscreen character, while others weren’t so willing to look the other way. Thankfully, with the design of 4-LOM (67) figure, Hasbro worked in a few more points of articulation into the arms of protocol droids, most notably the sliding pistons, which gives a fantastic amount of upper body movement that fans of the line are glad to see implemented. Hasbro took the head, torso and legs of the Walgreens exclusive C-3PO figure and then the arms of the 4-LOM (67) figure and then repainted all of the parts to match. This new version of C-3PO is found in the Galaxy’s Edge exclusive Droid Depot set, but they also used this recipe for The Black Series [Phase III] 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) (89) figure which should make the Star Wars collecting community. If only The Vintage Collection version of this character received the same treatment. If only. 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) is a beautifully executed 6” figure, and even if you’re not a fan of Disney Star Wars comics, you should be able to appreciate the merits of this action figure at the very least.

As mentioned, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) is a kit-bashed figure that utilizes the portrait, torso and legs of 2016's TBS [P3] C-3PO Walgreens exclusive figure with the arms of 2018's TBS [P3] 4-LOM (67) figure. Hasbro repainted the figure in a light metallic charcoal color and then accented the armor with half-toning that brings everything together beautifully. Hasbro also implemented “photorealistic” technology into the faceplate of 0-0-0 (Triple Zero). The applications are very well done. We noticed that the torso is a different shade of gray than the rest of the figure. However, we do not know if this is intentional or not. Is 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) a hybrid of different protocol droid’s plate coverings, or is this a mistake on Hasbro’s part? It’s difficult to assess from the comics if this was an intentional move by Hasbro or a result of utilizing different plastics in the factories in China. What collectors of The Vintage Collection line are going to be disappointed to see is that Hasbro tooled two new hand attachments (one left and one right) that give him “Freddy Kreuger” fingers: knives for fingernails. Admittedly, as silly as the concept is borrowing something from the horror genre into Star Wars, we have to say that 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) looks remarkable with the weaponized hands. The blades are silver, and one of the fingers has red paint on it. Is it blood? Or is it part of the design? In the comics, it looks like a torch. You’ll have to decide during play. Posed with normal hands or not, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) looks stunning on The Black Series 6” shelf.

We’re all too aware how out of scale BT-1 (Beetee) (88) is in the 6” line. But we must confess that when posed with 0-0-0 (Triple Zero), the duo looks remarkable. They share most of the same colors, up to and including the bright orange details, and when both are outfitted with their weaponry, they look like two of the scariest characters in the line. C-3PO would shutter in his plating if he encountered the two of them. Side by side, the duo provide believability behind Doctor Aphra’s character. She’s collaborated with two of the most violent assassin droids in the galaxy. And as a team, they’ll likely work together to bring down anyone in their paths. For us, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) has “Galactic Empire” written all over him, and he is a fitting character in the Star Wars Canon as well as Star Wars Legends. We don’t know how many more future characters Hasbro should focus on for The Black Series 6” line based on the Cannon or Legends, but we think it’s nice to pepper in a few here and there to keep the line fresh and interesting. Even if you are not a fan of Disney Star Wars, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) will serve well in your collection. He can be used for some off-screen bounty hunter, or perhaps a droid getting punished in Jabba’s palace, or maybe a protocol droid that serves in the background of the Rebel Alliance. Your choices are endless. 0-0-0 (Triple Zero) is a highlight of this wave of The Black Series [Phase III] 6” figures. We’re confident you’re going to love him.
