Across three line looks, Hasbro released four waves of STAR TOURS action figures for Disney Parks. By 2005, the Hasbro Star Wars line evolved into The Original Trilogy Collection, and as the line wrapped up with a transitional wave of figures before the launch of the Revenge Of The Sith line, Hasbro also packaged the three final STAR TOURS Disney exclusive figures in the same type of packaging as well. The Original Trilogy Collection STAR TOURS figures are perhaps some of the earliest and most interesting droid designs of the 1987 theme park attraction. Although introduced back in 1987, figures like 3T-RNE saw its first action figure interpretation created by Hasbro almost two decades later. It didn’t have a designation until the Hasbro line either. 3T-RNE was a droid that worked for the Star Tours travel agency. And although an out-of-date droid, it could be found waiting around for R3-D3 and R3-A2 to be repaired. Wookieepedia doesn’t go into much detail about the droid other than this, so it’s surprising that Hasbro felt the character would make a wise choice for an action figure. Like the others, this action figure looks odd in The Original Trilogy Collection packaging, but that’s because it’s not an Original Trilogy character.

With so many STAR TOURS droids produced for the line to date, many Star Wars collectors felt that The Original Trilogy Collection STAR TOURS figures were scraping the bottom of the barrel. And to some degree, they have done that. Still, we find some charm in what Hasbro produced for fans. Having already produced the featured dominant droids in the STAR TOURS attraction, Hasbro looked a little more deeply into the attraction and pulled some of the background droids to finish up the fourth and final wave of figures, including 3T-RNE. 3T-RNE comes with five points of articulation including a swivel mouthpiece, two swivel shoulders, and two swivel hips. 3T-RNE comes with a decent amount of articulation, and the articulation is better than its wave mates in this exclusive fourth wave of STAR TOURS figures. Ultimately, five points of movement don’t give the figure an incredible amount of versatility, but there is enough included here to achieve some interesting poses for the figure. 3T-RNE comes loaded with detail, and all of the colorful wirings running throughout this droid are attractive and interesting. Whether walking, leaning or bent over, 3T-RNE possesses quite a bit of personality, and we believe collectors will enjoy this action figure.

As briefly mentioned, 3T-RNE has a beautiful paint job. The droid’s eyes are humanoid and stand out from the rest of the figure. The droid is cast is a deep silvery gray color, like most of the droids in this final wave of STAR TOURS figures, and then Hasbro accented the droid with a vibrant array of colors including red, green, yellow, blue, and black. The droid stands out. All of the fine details applied to the droid are clean and help shape the attitude and temperament of this droid. When Hasbro goes above and beyond with an action figure’s deco, it makes the finished figure look like a small masterpiece. Like many other STAR TOURS droids, their names often have writing in Arabic, or they have words like “WARNING” or “DANGER” applied to various parts of them. They look while well-maintained decals. It’s an odd way to decorate a droid, but for us, it works out well. Like most “last waves,” The Original Trilogy Collection STAR TOURS wave came and went without much fanfare. Aftermarket prices for the three figures that make up this wave remain significantly higher than any of the single-carded droids in the STAR TOURS range. But we believe not too many Star Wars collectors knew about the existence of these droids either. 3T-RNE is an interesting release. You should own one.
