Across three line looks, Hasbro released four waves of STAR TOURS action figures for Disney Parks. By 2005, the Hasbro Star Wars line evolved into The Original Trilogy Collection, and as the line wrapped up with a transitional wave of figures before the launch of the Revenge Of The Sith line, Hasbro also packaged the three final STAR TOURS Disney exclusive figures in the same type of packaging as well. The Original Trilogy Collection STAR TOURS figures are perhaps some of the earliest and most interesting droid designs of the 1987 theme park attraction. Although introduced back in 1987, figures like G3-5LE saw their first action figure interpretation created by Hasbro almost two decades later. It didn’t have a designation until the Hasbro line either. G3-5LE was a droid that worked aboard the Star Tours travel agency's Tomorrowland Starport. It was seen near the MSE droid track plugging and unplugging a fuel tube, using a broken MSE unit as a workstation. At least that’s what Wookieepedia told us. The action figure looks odd in The Original Trilogy Collection packaging, but this is how Hasbro decided to pack this exclusive lineup.

With so many STAR TOURS droids produced for the line to date, many Star Wars collectors felt that The Original Trilogy Collection STAR TOURS figures were scraping the bottom of the barrel. Still, we find some charm in what Hasbro produced for fans. Having already produced the featured dominant droids in the STAR TOURS attraction, Hasbro looked a little more deeply into the attraction and pulled some of the background droids to finish up the fourth and final wave of figures, including G3-5LE. G3-5LE comes with four points of articulation including a swivel head, two swivel shoulders, and a hinge-jointed lower body. These four points don’t give the figure an incredible amount of movement, but there is enough included here to achieve some interesting poses for the figure. The upper body doesn’t have full support because of the hinge-jointed connection to the lower body, so G3-5LE wants to lean forward, and it’s a bit of a stressor to position it in an upright posture. Still, G3-5LE looks great despite its minimal articulation. The lower body is a treaded platform, but it doesn’t have any articulation at all.

G3-5LE has adequate paint operations. The droid is cast in a deep silvery gray color. And then Hasbro accented the droid with some vibrant colors including red, blue, orange and black. The paint operations are applied cleanly and help shape an expressive personality for these rather one-dimensional characters. Hasbro didn’t go above and beyond with the deco, but the finished figure looks excellent. Like many other STAR TOURS droids, their names often have writing in Arabic, or they have words like “WARNING” or “DANGER” applied to various parts of them. They look while well-maintained decals. It’s an odd way to decorate a droid, but for us, it works out well. Like most “last waves,” The Original Trilogy Collection STAR TOURS wave came and went without much fanfare. Aftermarket prices for the three figures that make up this wave remain significantly higher than any of the single-carded droids in the STAR TOURS range. But we believe not too many Star Wars collectors knew about the existence of these droids either. G3-5LE is a nice figure, but if you have the G2 droids, this is a little bit more of the same thing.
