B’omarr Monk - POTF2 [R/G] - Exclusives

If you distill everything you know about them, the B’omarr Monk name is a bit of a misnomer. What we mostly see when we look at this character is the BT-16 Perimeter Droid. Sure, the spherical “jar” that hangs from the droid’s “neck” contains a brain from one of the monks from the B‘omarr monastery. But wouldn’t it be a bit more accurate to refer to this action figure as former instead? Isn’t “B’omarr Monk Brain” and ‘better’ name for this action figure? Whatever your preference, Kenner/Hasbro treated collectors to an unexpected release. Both the character and its required assembly were two things that not too many Star Wars collectors anticipated but appreciated nonetheless. One of the most articulated action figures of 1997, the B'omarr Monk action figure arrived in ten separate pieces including six legs (of three unique varieties), the body section, the abdomen section, and a two-part claw. That’s some heavy duty building if you ask us!

The legs attach via ball-socket joints. The abdomen attaches via a swivel joint. And the claw attaches via a hinge-joint. As you can see, the B'omarr Monk is very diverse in how Kenner/Hasbro articulated it, and you can imagine that the figure has great versatility when you pose it. You can place one leg up while the others are grounded, or you can place the claw at different plans depending upon whom the B'omarr Monk interacts. The sculpt of the B'omarr Monk is fantastic. It will stand the test of time and not age. Both the textures of the sculpting and the color utilized to bring them to life succeed on all levels. You’ll see variances in the color of the abdomen, almost as if it has a worn look to it. But all of this is intentional to make as screen-accurate as possible. But in all honesty, the action figure, while very nice, doesn’t favor the onscreen character perfectly. It appears that Hasbro took liberties with the figure to make it more “creature like” in appearance.

Inside of the jar you’ll find one of the B’omarr Monk’s brains sitting in a blue liquid. It’s a bit macabre and dark to think about how this came to be, but it’s pretty neat as well. As a character that startles C-3PO as he enters Jabba’s palace, it’s a required purchase for your Star Wars collection. B'omarr Monk started as a mail-away figure. If you recall, Kenner/Hasbro packed nearly a half-dozen different coupons along with the Spirit Of Obi-Wan Kenobi mail-away figure. And one of them was for the B'omarr Monk action figure mail-in offer. (The other mail-in offer was the “pop-up” cantina.) Later, B'omarr Monk was offered through Hasbro’s Star Wars themed website at the time, but that practice stopped shortly after the B'omarr Monk. Like most figures of this era, B'omarr Monk experienced a widespread release and will likely not hold any aftermarket value as time continues to move ahead. But we love it and for us, it’s a necessary addition if you’re a fan of Return Of The Jedi.
