Clad in distinctive metallic armor, Captain Phasma commands the First Order's legions of troopers.

No one wanted to see the return of the Titanium Series figures, especially when Hasbro decided to ignore any new 3.75” super-articulated action figures. Instead, they made in the diecast metal figures instead. Admittedly, Captain Phasma isn’t a terrible release in this format, but did we need to see another 3.75” scaled version of this First Order leader when the first one didn’t go over so well? Especially one with less articulation? The Titanium Series 3.75” figure line was an unmitigated disaster from the start, but since Hasbro plans things so far in advance, a second wave was already in production before they could pull the plug on the format. Now we have a terribly painted wave of figures based on Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (the 40th anniversary Star Wars celebratory figures for 3.75” collectors) and now a wave based on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It’s the equivalent of placing salt in the wound. Will this never end? With so many of the figures reaching hit or miss status, the line is inconsistent at best.

It’s sad when the anger created from years of neglect completely blinds you from appreciating something that isn’t half bad. Don’t misunderstand, please. The Titanium Series 3.75” line to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars was a major slap in the face to longtime collectors. But we certainly didn’t need a wave based on The Force Awakens especially after the first wave was blown out at rock bottom clearance prices. This line was officially confirmed by Hasbro at 2017’s New York International Toy Fair, but if you recall, these figures were revealed by JTA in a series of teaser and rumor reports months before that. We also revealed the wave based on TFA. While not ideal, it may not be fair to dismiss the line as an utter and complete waste of time for Star Wars collectors. Now, there are plenty of things that not too many people will be able to overlook, like the lack of articulation and the medium from which they’re produced (metal). But with a weaker wave based on Episode VII, Captain Phasma is the best-looking of the bunch.

The Titanium Series Captain Phasma is more of the same. She has a decent pose, a fairly attributed scale, and a decent paint job even though she isn’t vac-metalized. All the most important points are met. The head sculpt moves via ball-socket articulation, and the rest of the figure is ball-jointed and swivel articulation. Hasbro worked in ball-jointed shoulders, but that’s it when it comes to the premium articulation. Captain Phasma also comes with swivel hands and a swivel waist—and that’s it. She comes with two versions of her golden blaster rifle, one with a blaster effect and one without it. The selling point of this line is the display stand which breaks down into base and backdrop. The backdrop is reversible, and Hasbro has included a matte painting of a Starkiller Base corridor and then a decorative silver and black artistic interpretation of Captain Phasma on the reverse side. Admittedly it all looks very nice. The backdrop is cardboard, but it isn’t removable, so it’s fine by us. The set comes with four removable foot pegs, and they’re meant to be inserted into the base. The MSRP is $14.99.
