Vengeful, tormented and lethal, Aurra Sing prowls the galaxy in search of bounty. Her life began in neglect and squalor in the slums of Nar Shadda. Escape came when the Jedi Master known as the Dark Woman saw that the Force was strong in Aurra, and brought her to the Jedi Temple. But fate had other plans. Aurra's training abruptly ended when star pirates kidnapped her during off-world Jedi training. She adapted to the life of a criminal and joined the crew. But they in turn sold her to a Hutt crime lord, who apprenticed her to the vampiric Anzati, to train her as an assassin. She emerged a cunning, remorseless hunter bent on revenge against all who had abandoned her. Because of a lie told by the pirates, Aurra believes the Dark Woman gave her to the crew of cutthroats, and so her deepest desire is to destroy every Jedi who crosses her path.

Why are some of the most obscure female characters in Star Wars the most intriguing? When Aurra Sing made her somewhat cameo appearance in The Phantom Menace, most of us wanted to know more. She was such a pinnacle of interest that the character was quickly developed by Hasbro into a 12” figure before there was any consideration to add her to the basic figure line. (That doesn’t happen all that often.) Thankfully, 3.75” collectors were able to exhale that sigh of relief when the day arrived that she became part of the Power Of The Jedi line with 2001’s POTJ Aurra Sing (Bounty Hunter) figure. Despite her intense popularity in the Expanded Universe, Hasbro didn’t release that many versions of her throughout the line. But all of that changed in 2005 when they developed the most aggressive version of her yet for the Star Wars: Unleashed line. Sexy, beautiful, threatening and limber are all of the words that can explicitly describe this rogue bounty hunter who, as far as Star Wars purists are concerned, last saw her at the Boonta Eve Classic in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. The character in the film was quite reserved, but the Unleashed interpretation of her takes her to another whole level. And this is the level that fans have been awaiting.

To be fair, we haven’t see any bounty hunters except for Boba Fett perform much action in the films. The same is absolutely true for Aurra Sing as well. She was much more animated in the Expanded Universe, and that’s where we imagine this Unleashed figure was inspired. The list of comics and novels is long, so Hasbro had plenty of material on which to base this miniature statue. The sculpt is dynamic. Aurra Sing is perched atop some mechanic device which has claws, gears and various machinery throughout it. It fits together like a misfit puzzle with three separate parts. And then Aurra Sing precariously balances on it while pointing both of her blaster pistols in opposite directions while wearing her long-barreled strapped rifle like an extra accessory. There are so many parts and pieces here that you might get lost in them, but this is meant to be interpreted as a compliment because we haven’t seen this much technical triumph in an Unleashed figure to date. The parts are engineered beautifully and fit together as needed to complete the piece. But it is Aurra Sing’s attitude that pulls everything together. She is proudly wearing a scowl on her face and her brow is furled which displays the tension of this piece beautifully.

We’re once again taken aback with the paint operations. Asajj Ventress and Aurra Sing share many similar qualities together. And just like Asajj Ventress, Aurra Sing will do whatever it takes to get the job done. With the wind blowing her ponytail every which direction and posing her arms up ready to battle whatever interrupts her, the Aurra Sing Unleashed figure brings the best of this bounty hunter into all once place. The sculpt is incredibly alluring, and has been tastefully done. Although for us the most difficult Unleashed piece to assemble, we love how well this figure has been designed and it’s easily one of the most complex Hasbro has ever produced. Aside from the Aurra Sing figure itself, the three piece base and the removable blaster rifle, Aurra Sing also has a separately molded vest (which really isn‘t removable without aggressively misshaping the figure to get it off) which is a very nice addition here as well. Aurra Sing may not say anything in Episode I, but you won’t care. The Unleashed interpretation of her is beautiful and it is a very respectful way to bring this character more notoriety and clout into collectors’ minds.
