Through the creative vision of Lucasfilm Ltd. and the Cartoon Network, the Clone Wars are brought to life in an exciting new series of short animated chapters. A unique animation style captures the drama of this epic period in galactic history along with its outstanding heroes and adversaries. Noble Jedi warriors lead Clone Troopers into battle against the evil Separatist forces and their droid armies. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Yoda and their comrades struggle against the rising power of the dark side and confront personal challenges against a backdrop of war-torn planets.

Obi-Wan Kenobi looks great no matter what toy line he is part of it always seems. Whether realistic, or animated, or a realistic interpretation of an animated version of him, the final action figure always seems to looks pretty darn good (meaning the likeness is usually spot on in our opinion). There have a been a few exceptions throughout the years, but in general we have had very few complaints. When it comes to the Clone Wars [Animated] lineup, we’re happy to report that this trend continues. Although it’s definitely hard to say if an animated action figure looks like the character in the films, Obi-Wan Kenobi does indeed look identical to his animated counterpart in the Clone Wars micro-series. This is a wonderful thing. As you all know very well by now, the Clone Wars [Animated] line does not cater to articulation junkies. This is a stylistic homage paying line meant to celebrate the wondrous animation style of Genndy Tartakovsky while giving collectors some tangible memoir in action figure format. While the figures are not without articulation, they’ve only been given basic accoutrements and simple mobility including mostly swivel articulation generally speaking.

Obi-Wan Kenobi had quite a few outfit changes in the various chapters of the Clone Wars micro-series. Perhaps it would have been wisest to give Obi-Wan Kenobi the clone trooper gear when he was facing Durge instead of a basic Jedi outfit. That’s an outfit we would have certainly preferred. Besides, this version of Obi-Wan Kenobi would have looked superb next to the Durge action figure in the line. As with many of the figures in this line, Obi-Wan Kenobi has been placed in an exaggerated action stance. So this instantly limits how versatile the action figure will be when displayed. Despite the very simple articulation, Obi-Wan Kenobi has been sculpted in a way where both of his hands can hold onto the hilt of the included lightsaber. This is a feature that most collectors wish the more articulation action figures could attain more frequently. With the animated version of Obi-Wan Kenobi, it couldn’t be easier. Besides, he looks fantastic holding the lightsaber in this fashion anyway. You’re going to love this aspect of the figure. Although Obi-Wan Kenobi has his left leg outstretched and his right leg at an angle, he stands very well and has flawless center of gravity.

As with most of the figures in the Clone Wars [Animated] line, Obi-Wan Kenobi has a very nice paint job. There are few spots of unevenness and perhaps a few imperfections, but Hasbro figured out very well how to translate the animation into excellent paint operations. Overall we’re quite impressed with how Obi-Wan Kenobi (and the others) turned out in this style. Not even the realistically styled action figures look this good (in our opinion). Maybe it’s simpler to decorate bolder colors with less transition, but these paint jobs come across as more vibrant and stand out as among some of Hasbro’s finest works to date. It seems that these figures would be easier to tool since they aren’t adding a great deal of articulation. So why not bang them out a little bit more and give us some of the neatest outfits unique to the Clone Wars show in this style of action figure? But even if that doesn’t happen, we’re still thrilled to get this basic version of Obi-Wan Kenobi in this format. He honestly looks great. He also comes with a Star Wars display stand but this is just an option because he can stand very well unassisted as is. The good news is that Hasbro has set a precedent by giving us realistic interpretations of these characters. If the Clone Wars [Animated] line ends, we still have options for these characters.
