This Rebel Alliance chief communications officer remains at her post until the final evacuation from Hoth, relaying attack commands to Rebel forces.

Dreams really do come true for Star Wars collectors sometimes. It took forever, but Toryn Farr has finally made it into the basic figure line. And it’s a figure that should impress all of those who have desired to see her in the Star Wars toy line. Of course, Hasbro utilized a nice portion of an already existing figure to bring her to life, but rest assured that they’ve done enough to that base sculpt to spice it up and make you forget its origins. Toryn Farr, who was originally planned for The Vintage Collection (yes, we know that hurts), had been tided over into The Black Series line when it was confirmed The Vintage Collection would go into indefinite hibernation. A long-awaited character from Echo Base in The Empire Strikes Back, we think Hasbro stepped up the production on the figure to ensure screen accuracy as much as possible. And Toryn Farr needed this treatment because many of the other figures that make up her wave leave a lot to be desired, or are repainted repacks. So we count our blessings as a result. Toryn Farr turned out better than expected as far as we’re concerned. We admit she’s not the first choice for many casual collectors, but it’s felt like she has perpetually been a fixture on Hasbro’s parking lot for years. It’s nice to finally pull her out of the parking lot and have her drive into collectors’ hearts.

It should be obvious to you, but if it isn’t, Toryn Farr utilizes most of 2010’s TVC Leia (Hoth Outfit) (VC02) figure. It’s hard to believe that this sculpt is four years old at the time of Toryn Farr’s release. Thankfully, it’s held up remarkably and is the perfect template with which to create Toryn Farr. Hasbro added a new excellent head sculpt, new forearms, and new hands to give Toryn Farr her unique appearance. And most special to us is the all-new vest which sports a filled collar, a signature look for this beautiful character from Echo Base. Hasbro could have easily just included Princess Leia’s vest here instead and saved some money, but they actually compared the stills to ensure that every detail was just perfect. Toryn Farr has also been completely repainted, and at a cursory glance, the two figures look strikingly different from each other when side by side. It could just be from making the sculpt at a different time, but we noticed a slightly different positioning of the legs. We doubt however that it was intentional. We know we are currently living in an era where we have to fear how bad the paint operations are going to be on our action figures, but we have to make it clear that we have found not one area with issues on this figure. She is gorgeously painted.

While not heavily accessorized, she does come with her signature headset, a must for this character. This separately sculpted piece fits like a charm over her head. While head movement is diminished while she is wearing it (her collar will bump it out of place), you can articulate her head mildly to get some unique positioning. The headset has no painted details at all, but the small size of it doesn’t necessarily warrant any either. Toryn Farr also comes with a blaster which she can hold quite easily. The included articulation will allow you to pose her in a variety of ways and even though she doesn’t have articulated ankles, you won’t need them to assist you standing her up. Toryn Farr may fall closer to the side of being a hardcore collectors dream come true rather than a necessary character for the basic figure line. But then again that’s what Star Wars collecting is all about for us. It’s the background characters which get peppered into the line that makes this hobby so much fun. And as we all know, any character from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back is an absolute safe bet because most Star Wars collectors favor this film over all others. So creating characters based on this film is always safe. (There are exceptions.) For us, Toryn Farr is a must-have action figure. She is beautiful physically and metaphorically.
