Jedi Warriors - SW [S - P3] - Multipacks (Exclusive)

The Jedi are a noble order of protectors unified by their belief in and observance of the Force. An ancient order, the Jedi serve the galaxy as guardians of peace and justice. To become a Jedi requires deep commitment and a high degree of discipline. Twelve Jedi make up the High Council, which governs the order from the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant. Jedi learn the ways of the Force and are known by their signature weapon: the elegant and deadly lightsaber.

We sometimes wonder what Hasbro is thinking when they develop exclusives for big box retailers as well as more focused retailers. The Toys R Us exclusive multipacks have been doing well for everyone involved for the most part. Ever since they debuted in 2003, collectors, Toys R Us and Hasbro have shared excitement for the mutually benefitting multipacks, which typically include four repackaged figures and an all-new accessory to make it fully worth your money. Hasbro follows suit with the Jedi Warriors multipack, part of the final phase of the Star Wars “Saga” line, but this one just doesn’t ring with the same newness as the ones of the past. Hasbro focused on producing products mostly from the Original Trilogy toward the end of the Star Wars “Saga” line, so it’s odd to see them create a multipack that focuses on Attack Of The Clones, with inferior figures: both in sculpt and in paint jobs. However, the Containment Field, which was supposed to have been included with the Geonosis Battle Arena playset, is not available to all collectors thanks to this multipack. But is $19.99 a fair price for just an accessory? Obviously it isn’t Hasbro attempted to create some other newness here. To their credit, we get a new take on the Nikto Jedi (who is referred to as Fi-Ek Sirch in the bio description). But Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon and Saesee Tiin all didn’t need to be re-released again, even though they come with new paint operations.

The Jedi Warriors multipack is also confusing. Why does Obi-Wan Kenobi come with the ASN-121 assassin droid? Is this is meant to represent him from the Battle of Geonosis, why include an accessory from the beginning of the film? OK, maybe that’s nitpicking a bit and the accessory does bring about a little more play value, but couldn’t Hasbro had kit-bashed a better version of Obi-Wan Kenobi to make him a little more screen accurate for which this set is based? Likewise, Plo Koon is another simple repaint here. You don’t get the blast effect that came with 2002’s Star Wars “Saga” Plo Koon (Arena Battle) (’02 #12) figure, but you do get a revised paint job which arguably doesn’t look that much better from the original release. (We do have to comment however that his stature is better.) Why Hasbro used the 2001 POTJ Saesee Tiin (Jedi Master) figure is beyond our comprehension. Where that figure represents a more demure “Jedi High Council” version of the aggressive Iktochi, Hasbro decided to forgo using the more action-packed 2002 Star Wars "Saga" Saesee Tiin (Jedi Master) (’02 #20) figure which they also could have kit-bashed to be more fitting for the multipack as well. We also feel he comes with a very bad (and much too dark) paint job for this 2004 release. Lastly, Nikto Jedi gets a pretty nice repaint. Hasbro eliminated all signs of his light tan outer robe and his blast effect is also nowhere to be found thank goodness.

The reason to even consider this release is for the Containment Field. It’s really just a large accessory for the Obi-Wan Kenobi figure, but it gets its own billing on the product packaging and that’s the reason why we’re featuring it by itself in the review. In retrospect, it’s sad that Hasbro decided to axe this piece for the Geonosis Battle Arena playset. With all of the plastic that came inside of that set, would it have killed their budget to include one more piece? Obviously it would have. It’s actually a very cool accessory. It spins/rotates as needed and comes with two electro effect made out of hard plastic. They plug into the top of the Containment Field like branches. And they’re strong enough to hold up Obi-Wan Kenobi to recreate the scene where he is being held captive by Count Dooku in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. It’s clearly the shining the star of the set and it’s really the only reason you should even consider buying this multipack. Yes, it’s aggravating that we have to obtain canceled parts this way, but how nice is it that Hasbro at least offered us all the opportunity to secure it for our collections? Jedi Warriors does fail miserably as a retailer exclusive. It’s a shame that Hasbro could have put together a cast of action figures that would have been significantly more interesting and engaging to collectors. But again, we do get a long lost accessory and we find that to be more of a benefit than the rehashed action figures are a detriment.
