A Star Wars licensee can never go wrong making various members of the Imperial Navy in their respective collectibles line. Think about it. What Star Wars collector can ever get enough of Stormtroopers, AT-AT Drivers, Emperor’s Royal Guards, Biker Scouts and Sandtroopers? Some may get old here and there, but in general they’re all a safe bet because there is a market to support the sales of these awesome members of the Galactic Empire. Will these same characters be as equally popular in a risky format though? Take for instance the Vinyl Collectible Dolls line by Medicom Toy. Are Stormtroopers and company safe bets for this format too? We would answer that question with a resounding “yes” because we have proof that this is true. We’re impressed with the TIE Fighter Pilot VCD figure and we honestly don’t know who couldn’t find this figure adorable and interesting at the same time. It looks great and possesses attitude and cuteness at the same time.... if that’s even possible.

You would think that the TIE Fighter Pilot would borrow parts from previously released Vinyl Collectible Dolls figures, but it’s all-new from head to toe. This should show fans of this line and of Medicom Toy in general that they mean serious business when it comes to the high-end collectibles they produce. The TIE Fighter Pilot VCD figure is a bit limited with articulation, even more so than other figures in the line, but the attention to detail given to the figure is nothing to be taken for granted. For the most part (and there are indeed exceptions to this), the heads of the VCD figures are pretty much screen accurate. It is typically the rest of the figure that is shrunken down and given the exaggerated proportions. So when you analyze the helmet of the TIE Fighter Pilot VCD, you really get to see an overload of detail that you may not even know exist on these characters, We’re not claiming that the helmets are ripped right out of the film, but we know it’s pretty darn close and the scale allows you to see stuff you can’t see on the Hasbro figures.

The helmet is shiny and the rest of the TIE Fighter Pilot’s body is dull. You might not have noticed from the photo gallery, but his head is moveable thanks to a swivel joint. As a bonus, the hoses coming from his helmet have been produced in a soft rubbery material that allow you to turn the helmet left and right somewhat freely. They don’t prevent head movement which is very cool. He has two swivel shoulder joints and well as two swivel wrists joints. These are obviously just basic points of articulation, but they’re essential too. The TIE Fighter Pilot comes with a blaster rifle and it can be held in his right hand very simply. Medicom Toy ensured that the gun was designed in an exaggerated way so that the figure’s exaggerated hand can hold it without issue. Mostly black, the TIE Fighter Pilot has been given hints of color here and there and of course you cannot miss the Imperial insignias boldly placed on two spots outside of the helmet. There is a lot to like here. Again, you can’t go wrong with Imperials. And this unique collectible has been done excellently.
