Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security)

General Analysis

Ten years after the fight to save Naboo from invasion, the galaxy is on the brink of civil war. Under the leadership of a renegade Jedi, thousands of solar systems threaten to secede from the Galactic Republic. A courageous Jedi Knight, his impulsive and headstrong apprentice, and a queen-turned-senator are drawn into the heart of the conflict... and the beginning of war.

Captain Typho

Captain Typho is Senator Padmé Amidala's head of security and personal bodyguard. This loyal and determined leader courageously defends Padmé from all who threaten her life.

Captain Typho is one of those obligatory “B-list” characters in Star Wars Episode II: Attack Of The Clones. But he had a vital role in the film as he was Head of Padmé Amidala’s security forces. She required constant protection because of all the attempts made on her life. It came to a point where Padmé also needed a Jedi’s defense, and that is how she and Anakin Skywalker ultimately began their intimate relationship. Attack Of The Clones begins with Captain Typho wearing a Naboo Pilot’s gear. Hasbro based this version of Captain Typho on the briefly worn uniform. The on-screen character then transitions into more traditional and general security officer gear. Frankly, Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) has become one of our most-favorite figures in the Star Wars “Saga” line. Granted, it isn’t an exciting take on the character, but Hasbro designed the figure well, and we don’t believe many collectors will give it the attention it deserves. The outfit, the likeness, and the simple yet perfectly-sculpted accessories add a lot to the somewhat stagnant character. The posture of the action figure is confident and has enough articulation to keep everything here interesting. The on-screen character wears leather, and Hasbro replicated that here beautifully.

As a character who didn’t have that much dialogue, we find it interesting that it was one of the first made for the Star Wars “Saga” line. Maybe that has to do with Lucasfilm. Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) comes with a mere seven points of articulation. It has a swivel head, two swivel shoulders, a swivel right bicep, a swivel waist, and two swivel hips. Hasbro worked in a stable center of gravity, and the feet are flush with any ground surface. Action figures with excellent balance make Star Wars collectors happy. The right arm swings out thanks to the swivel bicep, and it gives you a bit more flexibility to allow the figure to believably aim the blaster (with or without the included blast effect). Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) also comes with a removable helmet that fits like a glove over the head. We are disappointed that the visor portion of it is very cloudy. You cannot see the figure’s eyes through the “clear” yellow visor section, and we consider this a setback because they have successfully designed helmets with clarity before this that don’t obstruct your view. Still, it’s not a major letdown but rather a preference we have. There is no denying that Typho looks terrific with the helmet on his head, so don’t misinterpret our complaint as a one-sided opinion.

We’ve mentioned this in passing, but Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) has an excellently sculpted outfit. It stands out from many of the other figures in the Star Wars “Saga” line. The colors are spot-on, and the way they contrast and compare with other parts of the uniform are nothing short of impressive. We are immensely enjoying the figure’s portrait. Hasbro did a great job of capturing the character’s mannerisms and personality (as much as could be caught) in the small plastic head. Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) has an eyepatch over the left eye, and Hasbro ensured to master that finer detail with care. The metallic blue “covering” is beautiful and helps to give the figure a different personality. It’s evident that Hasbro’s goal is two make quality collector-focused Collection 2 figures in the Star Wars “Saga” line. We admit that articulation is not the primary focus in this lineup, but there is little room for debate that Hasbro isn’t tooling good-looking action figures. We have to clarify that Captain Typho (Padmé’s Head Of Security) is one of the most handsome figures in the Star Wars “Saga” line. And it will likely remain as such for years to come.
